Once we got loaded in the trucks, we headed on our way to the rendezvous point. I was sitting between Ari and Sammy, and it was so awkward...the ride was silent, the ride was bumpy, and the ride was long...so long.

We finally reached a bunch of hills right pass a signed that said Gedaref 5KM. The capital of the state of Al Qadarif in Sudan.

"Here we go." Ari said and I sighed starting to feel nervous.

"Stay in the truck." Sammy said to me.

"No! I came to help. You need a woman to show them it's okay." I said and Ari nodded.

"She isn't lying." Ari said and I half nodded as we pulled off of the road. Ari pulled behind the sand dunes and hills. He got out of the car and then helped me out. We stood around watching and waiting.

"Too bad he's not here." Sammy said talking about the leader of the refugees that was working to get them out.

"Maybe he couldn't get them out." I said and Ari looked at me.

"He got them out." Ari stated. We then heard a rock get kicked and someone crest one of the rock hills. Sammy grabbed my hand to put me behind him just in case and I accepted unsure myself. Ari looked at the man and then looked at us.

"It's safe." Ari said and I stepped away from Sammy. I finally got a good look at who it was, and I smiled.

"Kabede." I said and he looked at me.

"Jordan?! I thought you were dead! They said you were dead." He said and I smiled shaking my head.

"Not dead, not yet." I said huffing a laugh as I hugged him. He was who I worked with trying to get refugees out the first time. I saw the group of people come walking over the hill and I looked at Ari.

"Let's hurry and get them on the trucks." Ari said and I nodded and rushed to the back of the one truck and opened the hatched. Sammy jumped in the truck and tossed a wooden box down that they would use to step up on. Some little kids came running with the mom and I smiled at them.

"Hey sweeties, come on, on the truck, it's time to go..." I said lifting them up to Sammy as I got to the last kid, he wrapped his arms around my neck and legs around my waist and didn't let go. I went to get in the back of the truck.

"What are you doing?" Sammy asked.

"He isn't letting me go, I will just ride back here." I said and Sammy shook his head.

"He can sit in the cab with us. I don't want you back here." Sammy said and I groaned. I looked at the mother and she nodded as I walked to the cab of the truck with her son connected to me. Once I got in, Ari saw me holding a kid.

"Hey buddy." Ari said and I smiled as he cuddled into me. I heard Kabede talking an Amharic to them, but I knew what he was saying.

"No matter what happens, no matter what you see, no matter what you hear...keep quiet."

I sighed and looked behind me at all the refugees. This was so much more than what I could ever get on my missions and now I was panicking. This was not safe...

I watched the team close the hatches on both trucks and knew it was time to drive to the beach point. A different one from where I had them pick up but maybe better. Ari got in the truck, and I looked at him.

"Do you have my letter?" I asked and he smiled pulling it from his back pocket.

"They will get it Jo, I promise." Ari said and I smiled as we all got in the trucks.

As we were driving a saw a lot of lights in the distance.

"What the fuck is that?" I asked and Sammy grabbed the binoculars he brought with us.
