Chapter 50 - fresh start

You woke up the next morning to the sound of cars filling the driveway and you sat up to see weems not with you and you looked out the window and saw her talking with parents so you looked around the room and saw a note sat on her side of the bed 'I didn't want to wake you because this is the boring bit of the day, I will see you soon darling and you will do perfectly. I love you' after reading the letter you had the biggest smile on your face and you jumped into the shower to get ready as the letter from larissa was exactly what you needed for the confidence to get ready and meet all the students so you got changed into a pair of jeans with a suit jacket because you wanted to make a good first impression and you put your shoes on and made your way to the main entrance. When you got to the entrance you saw all of the teachers talking with parents and you just stood there for a minute until thornhill noticed you and excused herself away from the parents she was talking with "y/n you look good" she said standing next to you and you smiled and hugged her "so do you miss" you answered and thornhill shook her head "you don't need to call me miss unless your coming into my lesson to get a student" you laughed a little before responding "sorry its the nerves I haven't called you miss for a while" you said fiddling with your hands and thornhill put her hands on yours and you looked at her confused "you have nothing to be nervous about you will be a great teacher plus you have the best classroom in this school and I'm sure the kids will love it" you smiled and took a big breath "well I guess ill find out soon enough" you said looking up to see weems standing at the stage and you just looked at her and she made eye contact with you and you immediately felt calmer and let out a breath that you didn't even know you were holding in and she nodded at you before starting to speak "welcome new students to nevermore academy and welcome back to all the other students, I hope you had a lovely break and are ready to learn. Today there wont be any lessons you will just be getting your timetable and meeting your teachers and seeing your classrooms, like always my expectations are high for all of you and I hope you enjoy your time here. If you ever need help my office is always open and you can talk to any of your teachers" weems paused and looked at you and you immediately knew what it meant so you made your way towards the stage "we also have a new teacher" weems said and you walked onto the stage putting a brave face on and standing up straight "this is mrs weems who will be teaching all years English lessons, I expect you all to welcome her" weems then moved out the way of the microphone and you moved in front of it "its nice to meet you all I hope I will get to know each and every one of you and answer any questions you have when we meet properly later" you then moved out the way and larissa ended her speech and everyone started to disburse and collect there time tables and dorm room keys and you and seems went back to her office for a few minutes before having to meet the new students. When you got to the office you started to pace as you couldn't stay still and weems watched you for a few minutes before coming up to you and just hugging you making you stop in your tracks "stop stressing darling, you will do perfectly and I'll be there to make sure no one misbehaves" weems reassured you but you took a deep breath before looking at her "do you mind not being there? I don't want to be rude or anything but I feel like it will just add more pressure if you're there as no one else has the principal in there room" you said a bit worried that it would come off the wrong way but weems just kissed the top of your head "whatever you think is best darling and I'm only a phone call away if it gets out of hand" you stood on your tiptoes and kissed weems "thank you Rissa" you said before checking the time and realised you had 10 minutes "want to walk me to my room?" You said holding out your hand and weems held it and nodded "I would love to darling" you and weems both made your way to your classroom and when you got there you kissed and weems left and you sat in your chair just waiting for the students.

After what felt like hours but in reality was only 5 minutes the first year students started to come in so you stood up and waited till they were all stood at the back of the classroom and when everyone was in you took a big breath and started talking "hello everyone im mrs y/n weems and I will be your English teacher throughout your time at nevermore, I know this can be overwhelming so if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them but for now just take a seat wherever you like there won't be a seating plan here as I want it to be a safe space aswell as a classroom" once you finished talking all the students smiled and started to sit down and as they did you took your seat and just waited, everyone had found a seat so you stood back up and wrote your name on the bored "you can call me mrs weems if you want but I don't mind being called y/n because it can be confusing, as you can tell my classroom isn't like a normal room so everything in here is for your use whenever you like and I am always here to talk and listen if you feel comfortable coming to me. Now has anyone got any questions?" You said sitting down and everyone's hands shot up which took you by surprise so you pointed at the first person you saw "you're last name is weems so does that mean you're related to principal weems?" The kid asked and everyone's hands apart from one students hand went down and you shook your head and chuckled "i expected this question, we are not related but she is my wife" you said and everyone looked around and you smile "ok settle down please" you looked around and saw one girl still with her hand up so you looked at her "what's your name and question" you said and the girl looked at you "I'm Parker miss and i was just wondering why your room looks so cool" she said and your smile grew and you looked around "I wanted it to be unique Parker and a safe place" she nodded and put her hand down, you then handed sheets of paper around and got everyone to write there names on it and something they like and once everyone was done you just explained how the year was going to work and talked about what everyone wrote on there paper trying to remember as much as you could and after half an hour the bell rand meaning it was time for them to go to there next class and you looked at the door to see weems stood there "ill be escorting you all to your next room as you still don't know how the school works just yet" weems said walking in and you smiled at her before turning to the students "it was nice to meet you all please bring your paper to my desk, I'm sure we will all have a good year. See you all tomorrow" as you finished your sentence everyone started to stand up and put there paper on your desk before following weems and the last person to come up to your desk was Parker "it was nice to meet you miss, i look forward to class tomorrow" she said and you looked at her with a soft smile "it was nice to meet you too and please call me y/n its like i keep saying i want this to be a safe place" you reassured her and she nodded "well i will see you tomorrow m- y/n" she said with a giggle and you winked at her "it will take a while to get used to Parker but i look forward to seeing you tomorrow now hurry up or you'll loose your class" you said walking her to the door "thanks y/n I'm sure ill love your class" Parker said before running a little to catch up with the rest of her class and you sat down waiting for the next group to come in. You did the exact same thing with your next class and got the same question about you and your wife and answered the same way and before you knew it, it was time for lunch so you walked with your last class down to the canteen and as they left you made your way to the teachers table which was weird as you never sat there and you sat down in between weems and marylin looking at both of them before talking "hi guys" you said yawning "hi y/n hows the morning been?" Marlylin asked beefing seems to the question "its been really good thank you Marilyn, how was yours?" You asked slowly moving your hand to rest on top of larissas "it was good the new first year students seem really excited but some are quiet but that's understandable" she explained and you agreed "yeah its a fresh start some of them wont be used to it yet" weems chimed in and you smiled "they all didn't seem quiet when it came to asking questions" you said and they both looked at you confused "lets just say I've had the same question with all the students I've met and its if me and you are related" you said smiling at weems "I'm sorry darling" weems said holding your hand and you shook your head "they're just kids and its a valid question so no need to say sorry" you explained and weems still seemed a bit sincere about it but you shook that off just in time for the bell to ring so you said your goodbyes and made your way back up to your class for the last 2 groups of students. Instead of handing out paper you handed out books for this group as they are the older students, so you put an exercise book on each of the desks and waited for them to come in and as they did they were all shocked to see how nice the room was "hi students I'm mrs y/n weems but you can just call me y/n, i will be your teacher for English in your last years at this school. I hope you will all enjoy my lessons and please just take a seat wherever you like there is no seating plan here" you explained and as they all sat down you saw them just look around the room in awe "as you can tell my room isn't like all the others, this is a safe space and if you have any questions feel free to ask them but before you do i want to get this out the way that yes i am principal weems' wife. Now any other questions?" You said looking around and only seeing a few hands up so you pointed at the first person "will we be able to revive in here when we get closer to our exams?" They asked and you nodded "when that time comes i will be in here as much as possible" you reassured and they all nodded and you went through the hour like it was nothing just getting to know them and telling them all about the plan for the year, which was a rough sketch of a plan you had but they all understood and when it was time for them to leave you stood up and made your way to the door and as they all left you handed them a pack of pens and post it notes along with a folder "please take your books with you and i expect you to bring all of this back every class" you said and they all started leaving and you made your way to behind your desk again taking a deep breath before your last class came in. You did the exact same thing for them and it felt more like a socialised talk rather then a lesson which is exactly what you wanted today to feel like, they told you about how all the other teachers were talking about expectations and things they needed to do religiously and you just shook your head "I'm sure you will all do great this year but this is the first time we are meeting so I'm not expecting anything yet" you reassured them and they all loved how relaxed you were, the bell rang for the last time and you handed them all their packs and made your way to weems' office.

When you got up there weems was sat at her desk like always and you gave her a kiss before sitting opposite her "how was your day then darling?" Weems asked moving her laptop out the way "i have no clue why i was so stressed, it went really well in my eyes" you said with a massive smile on your face and weems smiled as well "that's really good darling i told you it would go well" she said moving to the chair next to you "yeah I'm really happy it went well" you said kissing her head and she stood up holding your hand "lets go down to dinner darling" you looked at her confused "but we never go to dinner" you said "i know darling but all teachers are required to be there" she explained and you nodded "ok" you said with a sigh not really in the mood to eat "it will be ok darling you don't need to eat a lot and when were done we can watch a movie of your choice and you can tell me more about the day" you were shocked she knew what you were thinking and you nodded "thank you rissa" you said as she led you out the room to the canteen. You sat next to weems who got you a small plate of food and held your hand "i know you don't want to darling but just a few bites please" she whispered in your ear and you nodded taking a little bite as weems talked with all the other teachers and you just looked around the room when your eyes found Parker who wasn't eating that much either so you stood up without saying anything and weems looked at you confused but before she could say anything you were already half way across the room and when you were next to Parker you leant down "hey you, can you come with me for a second?" You asked and Parker looked at you confused but nodded standing up and you led her out the hall. When you were outside the hall you found a bench and sat down "i saw you weren't eating" you said and Parker put her head down and you moved yourself to the floor and leant down "I'm not mad Parker I'm just worried" you said and a tear left her eye "i just didn't feel like eating sorry miss" she said and you looked at her "Parker i felt the same way today that's why i had a small plate, why don't we both go up to principal weems' office and i can get us a little bit of food for us" you explained and she nodded "ok stay here and ill be back in a second" Parker nodded and you went into the canteen looking at weems with a smile who was just confused and you grabbed 2 plates of food, not a lot but enough and left again not saying anything meeting Parker outside and leading the way to the office. When you got there you both just sat there for a minute before you turned the tv on "i know this is hard Parker but I'm here and were doing this together" you explained and Parker smiled before eating a mouthful and you both just sat there eating whilst watching avengers and when you both finally looked at each other your plates were empty "I'm proud of you Parker "you said taking her plate "thanks for doing this for me miss, you didn't have to" she said and you shook your head standing up and putting the plates on the table "remember its y/n" you said sitting back down "and i will do it as much as you need if it helps you eat" you explained and parker smiled "thank you y/n" she said and you winked at her "anytime now you don't have to stay here if you don't want to" you explained and parker shook her head "are you ok if i finish the movie?" She asked and you nodded "of course you can but principal weems might join us at some point if you're ok with that?" You asked and parker just smiled "i promise she's really nice" you said before watching the movie and you didn't realise that weems had come in before she was in front of you "oh hey rissa" you said smiling at her "and who is this?" She asked looking at Parker "I'm Parker principal weems" she said looking at weems with a slight smile "we were just gonna finish the movie and then i was going to take Parker to her dorm" you explained and weems nodded and you moved a bit closer to Parker so weems could sit on the end of the sofa and you all watched the movie together. By the end of the movie you were nearly awake but you sat up and weems just smiled at you and you looked at her confused "why you so smiley rissa?" You asked and she just shushed you and pointed at Parker who was asleep and you smiled and nodded at weems before standing up and grabbing a blanket, you wrapped Parker in the blanket and carried her to her dorm using weems' key to open it and you were quiet so you wouldn't wake up her roommate and you put her in the bed leaving a note saying you will see her tomorrow and you left quietly before going back to weems who was getting ready for bed "so Parker" she said and you looked at her "I saw they were struggling with their eating so I thought I would help" you explained and weems just laughed a little "what?" You asked pushing her on the bed playfully "it's just funny that you didn't want to eat but as soon as it came to helping Parker you ate" she explained and you didn't even remember that you didn't want to eat as soon as you sat down so you sat on the bed and laughed a little aswell "ok yeah I see how that can be ironic" you said getting changed and weems agreed "but I'm proud of you for eating" she said and you laid in her arms "thank you rissa" you said snuggling into her "now the year starts properly" she said before turning the lights off and you both fell asleep.
