"And then what happened?!"
Your children asked anxiously.

"Empowered by love, the brave knight slayed the wicked witch, saving the kingdom and all its people. The end,"

You'd gotten roped into telling your children a story which you weren't really prepared for, so the ending turned out to be pretty abrupt.

"Woahhh! I wanna be a knight!"
Your younger children proclaimed.

You could tell Aki wanted to say the same, but was just a tad bit too embarrassed to do so. So you compromised by wrapping all three of your kids in a tight hug.
"All three of you are my brave knights,"

Your children smiled brightly, once again being uplifted by your words.

"I can do this! I can be brave!"
Denji whispered to himself as he looked up at the dark ceiling.

You'd already put him to bed with a forehead kiss a while ago, but he couldn't seem to sleep. But after hearing your story about the brave knight, he decided he'd tough it out instead of running to you like he normally did.

He hugged Pochita a little tighter as he shut his eyes, feeling slightly betrayed at how quickly his beloved dog always fell asleep. How come he couldn't do that?

Okay, he just needed to do what you'd taught him. Deep breaths, and think about something other than sleeping...

Was he doing it yet?

Didn't seem like it.

The clock tick tick ticked away, and Denji came to the horrible realization that it was almost midnight, which for a child like him seemed like a horrible time to be awake. How come it was so easy to fall asleep before he came to your house?! He didn't even have a bed back then!

So reluctantly, he hopped out of bed and ran to your room, getting under your covers and cuddling up next to you.

"Hm? Denji? Couldn't sleep again?"
You asked tiredly.

You felt him nod, and you gave him a kiss on the forehead,
"I'm sorry baby,"

He stayed silent for a few moments before you asked,
"Want me to hum you a lullaby? Think that'll help?"

He nodded again.

"Okay, just keep your eyes closed and try to relax,"

You began to hum softly to him, being careful to not get too into the song or hum loud enough to wake up your other children. Though it seemed like Denji co-slept with you a lot, recently he'd actually gotten a bit better at it, being able to sleep by himself for two whole weeks!

You continued humming until his breathing became quieter, a light snore emanating from the boy.

You probably needed to be a little harder on him about this, but you always felt like being comforted by a parent was one of the best parts of being a child, and you knew that Denji hadn't had a lot of that before you.

So you'd make up for all that lost love he missed out on as much as you could.

"There's no need for you to be brave, I'll do the bravery for the four of us,"
You whispered quietly, thinking about the family you'd created.

If you'd known about what was being done to him, there was no doubt in your mind that you would've found him and dealt with those people who'd hurt him.

With another kiss on his forehead, you let your eyes rest, and floated off to sleep.

"Princess Power demands you make her ice cream!"
Your daughter said loudly.

"Power, you know I'm all for you knowing what you want, but do you remember what we talked about?"

She looked at the ground guiltily,
"Treat people how you wanna be treated..."

"Atta girl. Now, what would you like?"

She looked up at you with hopeful eyes,
"Can you make me ice cream please?"

You smiled, rustling her hair,
"Of course. You want whipped cream and sprinkles too?"

She nodded excitedly,
"Yes please! Ooh! Can you put the chocolate syrup on it too?!"

You chuckled,
"Power, it's already chocolate ice cream,"

"I know, but I want it to be super chocolate ice cream!"

You let out a laugh at her igneous idea, doing exactly as she asked.

"Hey dad, who's your favorite kid?"
Your daughter asked, hoping for a specific answer.

"I love you all equally. But, you are my favorite daughter!"

She gasped in delight before realizing what your words really meant, a slightly annoyed expression on her face.

"But daaaad, I'm your only daughter!"

"And I'm very blessed to have you,"
You said, handing her a cold bowl of ice cream. She thanked you, giving you a quick hug before running off with the bowl.

It was only a matter of time before your two boys came running over to you to ask for ice cream as well.

Your little Power seemed to be quite the trendsetter!

Looked like you'd need to buy more ice cream soon.
