***CHRIS POV***

"So I haven't heard you mention anything about Geneva since the cookout. How is she?" Lisa asked as we sat in my house having some lunch a few days later.

"Oh, Geneva and I aren't talking now." I said not making eye contact with her across the table.

"What did you do?" Lisa asked.

"Why do you think I did something?!"

"Because Christopher, everything seemed fine at dinner that night and now you aren't talking to her? What did you do?" Lisa asked.

"I was an idiot and I need to think before I speak sometimes." I said and Lisa just glared at me.

"What exactly happened?"

"Well, we were talking as I walked her out and I told her I liked her but with everything going on and everything that recently happened I didn't know when I would be ready to start something new." I said.

"Oh Chris..." Lisa groaned.

"I also mentioned her age. She is going to be 32 this year...10 years difference..." I said and Lisa then half nodded.

"I see the worry there but Chris if you like her..."

"That doesn't matter if I like her or not, I don't need the media to eat that up."

"Fuck the media, Chris! Be happy! Did she make you happy? Did you have a good time with her?" Lisa asked and I nodded.

"Then just be with her. Nothing says date her right away but maybe hang out together. Go out to a park, take dodger out together just go out as friends. Just don't let something that could be good for you pass you by because of the media." Lisa said and I sighed but nodded.

"It's been days, I highly doubt she will even accept my calls." I said and Lisa sighed.

"Don't know until you try." Lisa said and I sighed. I pulled out my cellphone and opened up a text message.

CHRIS: Hey

***GENEVA POV***

I was sitting in my car on my lunch break at work. I ended up switching shifts with someone and was working a day shift today. I was aimlessly scrolling through social media when my phone went off in my hand. I got a text message, and I opened it up.

CHRIS: Hey

I just stared at this message and wasn't sure what to say to him. He didn't want this, he was comparing the age and our relationship.

GENEVA: Hi

CHRIS: How are you?

GENEVA: I'm fine, working an early shift today so I'm sitting lunch in my car.

CHRIS: I was wondering if we could get together and talk?

GENEVA: I don't know Chris...what good would it do if you just come to the same conclusion as before.

CHRIS: Please Eva? Just to talk.

I knew this wasn't smart and I didn't want to keep getting strung along by this man.

GENEVA: Where and when?

CHRIS: When is good for you?

GENEVA: I get off at 6, be there by like 6:15. Want to meet up somewhere like Caffe Nero.

CHRIS: Sounds good, be there at 6.

I didn't answer him. I didn't even think I wanted to show up. I mean what else could this man possibly have to say to me?

💛 💛 💛

I walked into the café at 6:25 annoyed at being late and him probably thinking I stood him up. I saw him sitting on one of the couches and look up when I walked in. I pointed to the counter, and he nodded as I placed my order for an iced coffee. Once I got my drink, I sat beside him on the couch, and he gave a small smile.

"I was starting to think you weren't coming." Chris said.

"Sorry a patient needed something last minute. I was going to text you, but my phone died." I said and Chris huffed a laugh.

"Which would explain why none of my text were read." Chris said and I nodded as I took a sip from my coffee and sighed.

"Yeah, sorry." I said and he shook his head.

"No, I wouldn't have blamed you if you didn't come honestly. We didn't end on the best of terms." Chris said and I half nodded.

"No, we didn't." I said.

"I never wanted to make you think I would always be comparing Geneva. After everything that went down, I'm just nervous and wary." Chris said.

"I get that Chris but one thing you need to see is that I'm not here holding a gun to your head telling you to date me or be with me or whatever. I mean I was just wanting a friendship at first and see where that goes but you instantly went to a couple and that's where things took a turn. I know you went through hell for the past, what almost 2 years? I'm not her though, I'm not your team, I'm just me, wanting to get to know you. Are you forgetting who approached who in the bar? You approached me...you loved the song. You wanted to talk to me..." I said and Chris let me rant. He knew I had a point.

"I'm just nervous and scared of entering something I may not be able to get out of if I want to. I know that's stupid, and I know I shouldn't think that way but that's what I wanted for 2 years, and I had no way out." Chris said and I groaned.

"Chris, if you and I were together and you told me you wanted out I wouldn't hold you back, I wouldn't make you stay. I'm not that kind of person. Honestly, I have had people leave my life before, it's not something I wouldn't know how to deal with." I said and Chris looked at me and sighed.

"Geneva..." Chris said. I just shook my head.

"Chris, I think you need to really think about what you want. You wanted to talk, you told me your fears and I accept them. I will never be like what you had to deal with recently, but I think you may need to work on yourself first before you even think of entering another relationship." I said and Chris didn't say anything and just hung his head. I sighed, leaned over and kissed his cheek.

"Call me when you're ready for whatever you want..." I said, got up and walked out of the coffee shop. Once I got to my car, I tried holding off my tears. Chris was playing with too many of my emotions too fast and I had to wonder even when he did call, if he called, would it be worth accepting whatever he offered?
