I had a lot on my mind when I got home.
I couldn't stop thinking about what the tuxedo guy said. It was a totally crazy thing to ever do, but why was I still thinking about it.
Was I really desperate enough to consider such?
I took his card out of my coat pocket and looked at it.
Nicholas Campbell and the other details were on the card. The answer was no, I couldn't do it.
I dropped the card on the kitchen counter before proceeding to my little sisters room.
I knew she would already be asleep, but I still wanted to kiss her goodnight before going to bed.I carefully opened her room door and walked in. Her room was a mess as usual, but I ignored that and made my way to her on the bed. She was cuddling her big pink teddy bear, which I got her for her 15th birthday. I smiled and gently placed a small kiss on the side of her head before carefully walking out of her room.
I was so tired after the days work, so I just dived on my bed and slept.
The next morning, I woke up to clattering sounds, seemingly coming from the kitchen. With still heavy eyes, I searched around for my phone using my hand alone. When I felt it, I grabbed it and checked the time. It was past 8 am.
I took a deep breath and stood up, wanting to make sure I saw my sister off for school.
"Morning Crystal," my sister greeted quite cheerfully the moment I made it to the living room.
"Morning Ruby," I replied, scanning the messy kitchen and wondering what the hell she was doing.
"I'm glad you're up, I didn't want to have to wake you up," she said, throwing more dirty dishes into the sink. I could feel a migraine forming already just watching her.
"What are you doing?" I asked, confused
"I made breakfast." she turned and smiled wholesomely at me.
"You made breakfast?" That sounded absurd.
"Yes," she answered, putting a plate of pancakes on the counter, which was also our dining table. "I thought you would be hungry,"
I narrowed my eyes at her. I was beginning to grasp what was going on. My sister hardly ever cooks, and the few times she did, she did for herself alone. She would never intentionally do something so nice except she wanted something.
"Okay..." I sat on one of the stools at the counter, "spill. What do you want? "
"Jeez Crystal, can't I just make breakfast for my sister?"
"Right, how very sweet of you," I mocked.
"Fine, you got me." she left what she was doing and sat next to me.
"Next month is prom, and I really really really wanna go, but I'm going to need a dress for that.""Ruby..."
"I know, prom dresses can be quite expensive, but that's why I'm telling you now ahead of time. I am hoping that you will be able to spare some money from the trust fund, " she suggested.
"You know the trust fund is specifically for your college tuition," I reminded her
"I know, but I can't think of anything else," she said.
"You can decide not to go," I suggested. I saw the way her demeanour changed. She looked almost disappointed.
"It's going to be my last prom and high school party. I've dreamed of it since i was a junior." she said in a sad voice, which kinda broke my heart.
