A week later...
My suitcase was packed and ready, so was I.
It was a Saturday and also the day I met Nicholas's family as his bride to be.It was also a tough day for me because I had to leave Ruby behind.
Truth be told, when I considered the contract, I didn't think I would have to go across the country to Roosevelt, which was far away from Ruby. Even though Nicholas had promised and assured me he would take absolute care of her, it was still very hard for me.
"I can't believe you're leaving," Ruby said sadly. Ever since our parents died, I had never left her alone. We had always been together.
"Me too," I replied, equally sad.
"But I am so happy for you Crystal, you are going to fulfil your dream," she said
"I am happy that you're happy for me," I told her truthfully.
"Of course I am," she smiled at me, "my sister is going to be the queen of Roosevelt."
"Oh, stop," I said, and we both chuckled. Afterwhich, I pulled her into a tight hug.
"I will miss you," she whispered
"I will miss you too." I pulled away and held her shoulders, "Hey, not for long, okay? Remember, once you graduate, you will be joining me, " I reminded her.
One of Nicholas promises was that, after she graduated high school, she would join me in Roosevelt so we could be together again. At least until she was ready for college.
"I can't wait," she smiled. Just then, we heard the sound of a car pulling up on our driveway. I knew it was Nicholas.
"Good morning. I presume you're all set?" Nicholas said the minute he walked in.
"I am," I sighed.
"Hi." Ruby was in front of him already.
"Hi Ruby, pleasure to meet you," Nicholas said to her
"Pleasure to meet you too, Your Highness." she looked too excited doing that. Typical Ruby.
"I would like to introduce you to Claire..." he pointed to a young woman beside him. She looked like she was in her late twenties.
"She will be your caretaker and maid. Whatever you need, she will get it done. ""Pleasure to be of help, miss." she did a little bow for my sister, who in turn looked back at me. I didn't miss the shock and excitement in her eyes.
"And this is George," he again pointed to a man by his side, well dressed in a suit, "he will be your personal driver. He will take you to school and anywhere you ever want to go. " That shocked both Ruby and I because I didn't know about this.
"Oh, you didn't need to." I tried to politely decline, but he wasn't having it.
"I insist," he argued. "I promised to take care of her and keep her safe" he reminded me. His actions were really, really sweet, and I couldn't help but look at him in awe.
