I had a feeling he wouldn't like my idea, and his reaction only confirmed my thoughts.
I have been told about the hatred and resentment Nicholas had towards his mother because of the mistake she made, but I had never actually seen it in his eyes.
I knew that he never wanted to talk about his mother, but I didn't know he didn't even want to set eyes on her. It was heartbreaking.
"Nicholas..."
"I know I said I would do anything for you, but that..." he trailed off for a moment, "...that, I can not do, " he instantly dismissed.
"Nicholas," I called again, I didn't even know where to begin to convince him regarding his mother.
All this while I had thought that I would be able to avoid the conversation, mostly because I was just his contract wife then, and I didn't want to intrude on his family matters. But now that I was fully a part of his family, I knew I couldn't just sit and do nothing, especially after she was of great help to me.
I owed it to her to reunite her and her son.
I may not fully be a mother yet, but the fact that a baby was growing inside of me, I could already understand certain things. I couldn't imagine being separated from my child, that would be a terrible thing. So I was ready to do anything to put his family back together, because I knew better and because it was my family too.
Nicholas went and sat on one of the living room sofas. I followed and sat next to him.
I wanted nothing more than to make his family complete and whole. I may not know the full story of what happened with his mother, but I knew that everyone deserved a chance to explain themselves, plead for forgiveness, and be given a chance at redemption."I know you hate your mother for what she did to your father, and I know that no explanation would be enough to make up for what she did. She made a mistake, and she regrets it. She is suffering the punishment already for what she did, the pain of losing her husband and her home, why add to her pain by rejecting her?
We all make mistakes. We all have our regrets, but we deserve a second chance sometimes. Your mother deserves a second chance." I finished. Nicholas didn't look at me, just looked straight ahead, seemingly deep in thought.
It felt like he wasn't even listening to what I was saying, so I decided to let him in on what his mother did for me. For us.
"Your mother is the reason I am here today," At my statement, his attention was brought back, and he looked at me. "She was the one who found Brent and made him confess to what he did. Without her, I wouldn't have been able to prove that I am innocent, " I said sincerely to him.
"She loves you so much, Nicholas. So much so that she had to come to my aid because she figured out that you were happy with me. She wanted us to get back together because she wanted you to be happy again, " I emphasized on my last sentence. He turned his head again, but this time, he had a look of surprise on his face as he drifted into thoughts.
"She may have done terrible things in the past, but she is still your mother. Please, give her a second chance," I pleaded on her behalf.
I reached out and took his hand, placing it between both my palms. "For my sake," I said, rubbing the back of his hand soothingly. He looked at me and placed his hand over mine.
