I woke up the next morning, feeling a little worn out from the stress of the previous day. When I opened my eyes, I was instantly on alert, remembering that I was sharing the room with a certain someone.
I gently and slowly lifted myself off the bed, checking the sofa for Nicholas. When I saw an empty sofa, I let out a breath of relief, stretching out a little.
But then, I thought, where did he go? What if he was in the bathroom?I looked at the bathroom door as if my stare could bore a hole through the door. It was quiet though, so maybe he wasn't there. I just had to be sure.
I got off the bed and went over to the door, I slowly turned the door handle and started pushing the door open little by little. Then the sound of the front door opening and closing startled me. I let go of the door and stood straight, just as Nicholas came through the doorway.
"Good, you're awake," he said while I stood there awkward.
"I was thinking. We are to leave for our honeymoon today, so I decided I will let you pick our destination," he said. I narrowed my eyes at him, not fully grasping what he said.
"I don't understand," I said.
"With the discomfort you have faced so far since the contract, I want to make it up to you. So you decide where we are going to for our fake honeymoon, wherever you want," he explained.
"Really?" I was mesmerized by his idea.
"Yes," he said.
This was a lot for me, I had never been anywhere, never travelled, and never had a vacation or anything whatsoever. So, being at this spot with a choice to go wherever I wanted was somewhat overwhelming.
I moved over to the bed and sat down, my head spinning with thoughts. He must have noticed my uncertainty from how I got lost in thought.
"I'm sure there must be some place you have always wanted to visit, a city, a state, a country, just name it, and it is done," he assured me.
I thought about it for another minute. I had always wanted to go to the Maldives, well ever since I heard about how beautiful it was. I also knew people, well, mostly couples, went there for vacation. Even so, it was the first place that popped up in my head.
"I have always wanted to visit the Maldives," I said, unsure.
"Then Maldives it is," he concluded. I looked up at him, still wondering if he was being one hundred percent serious.
"Really? Just like that?" I asked, excitment bottling up inside me.
"Just like that," he answered. "I will leave you to get ready and packed. We leave by noon," he then said.
"Okay," I said, trying to suppress a scream of excitement. He turned around and started walking away but stopped halfway.
"Also, i gathered you might need some things, clothes, toiletries, bags and shoes maybe. so I have asked Alma to accompany you to shop for whatever you need. My card and the pin to it is on the table, spend as much you need, " he said and walked out the door.
My mouth was hanging open, I had to close it and let my brain reboot for a second before I screamed. Well, they were silent screams, but they were screams of excitment either way.
