"I thought it was just a myth. Those… Devourers." Wei Wuxian tried hard to look innocent while he flashed his most dazzling smile to Lan Wangji.

Distraction always worked best for him.

But for some reason, Lan Wangji only looked at him with a cold gaze and after a very nerve-racking seconds passed, he turned around and walked away.

Wei Wuxian let go of the breath he was holding unconsciously and smiled in satisfaction – when Lan Wangji suddenly turned around to face him.

"We have an update on the missing angel's last known location. Would you like to come with me to check the place? I could always use the help."

Hmm…

Strange how suddenly the angel became polite and cooperative. But he wanted to know more about those disappearances. And even if it involved him to dive headfirst into the shark-infested water? Well, he could always use his brain – and brawn if push came to shove.

For now, he was going to see where this hotter-than-sin angel took him to.

"Sure, I have free time, let's go."

Their destination was the forest at the edge of the town, and Wei Wuxian could easily detect that some strong barrier was erected around the forest.

He looked at Lan Wangji who observed the surroundings, and he sighed. If he waited for the angel to make the first move, they would not be able to progress in a thousand years or so, so he sneakily snapped his fingers behind his back to weaken the barrier at the nearest point and he pointed at it.

"Look, there's a bit of a weakening point there that we can go through."

Lan Wangji turned to observe the place that Wei Wuxian showed him and he nodded before he went through it, followed by Wei Wuxian.

Inside the barrier, the air was different from the outside. It was rich with mana, and Wei Wuxian immediately became alert. 

This was not a normal occurrence, with this density of mana. Not in the human world anyway.

Then Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji who looked like he was very relaxed. Sure, Wei Wuxian immediately understood why.

The air here was almost the same as where the angels resided.

They must have been suffering from the lack of mana in the human world, that's why they looked like they were about to keel over and passed out from exhaustion. This condition was common for first timers, or for the higher level angels since they lived in the highest density part of the heaven.

And this easily concluded that the missing angels were indeed being held here.

"Lan Wangji, snap out of it." He snapped his fingers in front of Lan Wangji's face, but he didn't get much reaction from the angel. It seemed like he was entranced – or overwhelmed by the change of the atmosphere.

"Aish, goddamnit. This is so frustrating." Wei Wuxian could only think of one thing that surely would snap the high-born angel out of his trance and prayed that he would not kill him from doing so.

"Just remember later that I do this for your own sake, Lan Wangji, please don't blame me or worse – don't fall in love with me."

Then Wei Wuxian proceeded to kiss Lan Wangji right smack in his mouth.
