isn't it time?

When Lan Wangji entered his quarters, his siblings were waiting for him with a table full of delicious food – all his favorite.

“Your Majesty!” Eve – his sister from a foreigner mother with hair as bright as sunlight and eyes the color of amethyst – jumped and hugged him, followed by Fei and Jingyi.

All four of them were born from different mothers, but they loved each other like real siblings. Lan Wangji always protected them from the politics and let them live as they wished for, and they loved him back as much.

“General Wei, thank you for bringing my brother back.” Fei curtsied to the General – who stayed by Lan Wangji’s side complete with his full armor. “Please take off your armor and join us for dinner?”

He took his time to answer and finally he nodded and took off his helmet. The moment the helmet was off, his long, luscious black hair spilled out and he shook it a bit and fixed it before he put the helmet on the floor and sat beside Lan Wangji – who observed him very closely.

“Do you perhaps have a sister, cousin, or any female relative, Wei Ying?” Lan Wangji suddenly asked General Wei and he almost spurted out the tea that he drank.

“Gege! Please don’t do that! Can’t you see Xianxian gege is tired? He was supposed to have his break for the whole week but because you were missing, he came back and immediately searched for you!” Fei took a napkin and gave it to Wei Wuxian who accepted it and used it to clean his clothes.

“It’s alright, Princess Fei, it’s my job to serve Your Majesty and his safety is the most important thing.” Wei Wuxian cleared his throat and started to fill his bowl with the extravagant meal. “Please eat this, Your Majesty. This is your favorite.” He took a piece of tofu with mushroom sauce and put it in Lan Wangji’s bowl to distract him from asking any more questions about any female relative.

On the other hand, Lan Wangji – who was still observing his loyal General – calmly took the tofu and ate it gracefully. He refrained from eating too much meat, and he remembered how although Yingying served him pork porridge, the meat was only the smallest amount and it was grounded very finely. Instead, she also put a thousand year egg – which was his favorite – and also raw egg on top of the porridge, which was also his favorite way to eat porridge.

Of course this was just an assumption on his part since maybe some people also liked it the way he did. It was just suspicious that the woman – who bore a very close resemblance to his General – was the one who had the same taste as himself.

And since General Wei was with him ever since he could ever remember, the man was the only one who knew about his preferences like the back of his hand.

Lan Wangji listened to his siblings chatters and how General Wei was unusually quiet, and he wondered if his most trusted man was somehow hiding something from him.

Wei Wuxian was sweating bullets from the way the Emperor asked him the questions about his sister or cousin.

He cursed the day that the Emperor somehow had burst into his life in a very unexpected way, and just when he was still in his other persona.

Ever since he could remember, he could always change his gender to both man and woman, and he liked how he could relax without being recognized as the General.

The second reason was that he had… feelings. For the Emperor. And he didn’t even know when it started.

Of course it was impossible for him to be together even if there was a slight possibility that the Emperor returned his feelings – which he didn’t – since he did not plan to tell the Emperor the truth, and he planned to retire soon. After all, the kingdom was in a peaceful period, and he made sure that it would be like that for as long as he should live.

Wei Wuxian spent the rest of the evening secretly planning his retirement while eating the food without even tasting them. He noticed Fei was piling meat on his bowl and he wasn’t that dense to not know her feelings toward him.

Fei was a beautiful girl, and she was more level headed than Eve and Jingyi. Of course he was flattered that the Princess had feelings for him, but he knew that he couldn’t give her what she wanted since he couldn’t love another person other than the Emperor. That’s why his love was doomed from the start, and he had to leave for his own sanity.

When the meal was over, Wei Wuxian escorted Lan Wangji to his bedchamber and started to leave when Lan Wangji called him out.

“Have a drink with me, Wei Ying.”

He didn’t even give Wei Wuxian an excuse as he started to pour alcohol into two glasses.

“I thought you hate drinking, Your Majesty.” He chuckled nervously.

“Yes, but you love it. So sit down.”

Wei Wuxian had no choice but to obey the order.

As he took one of the glasses and drank it, he was surprised to see that it was his favorite alcohol. He didn’t know that the Emperor knew about this particular vice of his, and since the alcohol was only available in one store only, he wondered if the Emperor really made an effort to buy it for him.

“What do you want to talk about, Your Majesty?” Wei Wuxian prepared himself for whatever Lan Wangji wanted to talk about.

“Call me Lan Zhan when there’s only us, Wei Ying. No need to be so formal.”

Well, that would make this conversation very intimate and he would very much like to avoid any form of intimacy if he wanted to leave. But he was just a subject and this man was the man that he had sworn his allegiance to.

“Yes, Lan Zhan. Is there something in your mind that you want to talk to me about?”

Lan Wangji was quiet for a while and drank his cup before he poured more into them, and finally he answered.

“I think it's time for me to get married. What do you think?”
