The first time Lan Wangji suspected that Wei Wuxian was somehow connected to Yingying was her eyes.

He was not that stupid to not notice the similarity between those two almost identical silver orbs that he had been staring at for as long as he remembered. He could draw every line that made out the iris, every light, every shadow, every crevice, everything. And when he saw the identical one in Yingying’s eyes, he was very suspicious.

He started to research the mythical creatures that could change genders – and found quite a few species about them, but nothing was really a match. The closest thing he could find was a shapeshifter – which he doubted because they liked to eat human’s meat.

But somehow, he knew deep in his heart that his most trusted general and the woman he had met by coincidence and slept with – were the same person.

Sometimes, when he was sleeping, he could see bits and pieces about Wei Wuxian that he never saw before.

He was playful, cheeky, and very powerful beyond words, and he knew that he was madly in love with him even when he knew that it was forbidden to fall in love.

He didn’t understand why, but he knew that it was not about their gender. His love transcended more than just physical restriction – and then he saw Wei Wuxian’s woman’s form, and they made love for a longest time.

Lan Wangji wondered if that was a dream, but it felt too real to be just a dream, so he decided to do it. Sleeping with both Yingying and Wei Wuxian.

And as he suspected, they were both the same person – from the way they moved, the way they smelled, the way they responded to his touch – and in this turn of events, he knew exactly what to do to keep Wei Wuxian by his side forever.

Wei Wuxian didn’t hear what Lan Wangji said when he was still falling from the edge, and afterwards, Lan Wangji didn’t give him any chance to breathe at all – by turning him around and starting all over again.

He took him from every position – just like when he did it with Yingying, and if Wei Wuxian could see the strange gaze that Lan Wangji looked at him with, he should know that Lan Wangji had suspected something.

Unfortunately, he was too deep into his own pleasure that he didn’t suspect anything until Lan Wangji pulled him into his embrace and kept him there.

Wei Wuxian sighed in contentment and wished that he could be with Lan Wangji for the rest of his life, when he heard Lan Wangji spoke to him.

“Wei Ying, after this monster subjugation I will pass the throne to Jingyi and afterwards, will you marry me?”

It took a while for Wei Wuxian to digest the words, and when he did, he gasped and moved away from Lan Wangji’s embrace.

“What? Lan Zhan, are you joking right now?” He didn’t really believe what Lan Wangji had said. “I mean, we’re both men, and I’m your subordinate, why would you want to marry me? Well, I know that some ancient Emperor loved to keep a few beautiful male concubines by their side, but I’m not even that beautiful and…”

“You are the most beautiful person that I’ve ever known, Wei Ying. Or should I call you Yingying?”

Wei Wuxian paled whe he heard the name Yingying from Lan Wangji’s mouth.

“You… you knew?”

Lan Wangji nodded.

“I am now.” He then pulled Wei Wuxian into his embrace and kissed him again. “And for your information, I don’t really care about your gender, because I love you for you, Wei Ying.”

Wei Wuxian was speechless.

He never thought that Lan Wangji would reciprocate his feelings and even had the same feeling as himself. 

And he just proposed to him.

“I–I love you too, Lan Zhan. But can you give me some time to think about… this? This is going too fast for me, I have to calm myself down first and then rethink about everything and…” Wei Wuxian rambled from the nervousness and Lan Wangji chuckled and kissed his nose.

“Take all the time you need to think, but I do not accept anything other than yes.” Lan Wangjo caressed Wei Wuxian’s cheek. “And you have until we finish the monster subjugation to answer me properly.”
