It was a small town where everyone knew everyone, and although she was a newcomer, she quickly and easily captured the townspeople’s hearts by helping people whenever they needed it.
She was young and beautiful and many young men tried to capture her heart, but she rejected their courting politely – until one day when she came back to her humble house on the edge of the forest and saw that there was a disturbance around the barrier she erected.
She quickly followed the path to the forest where the disturbance started, and she was startled when she found the cause of it – or who caused it.
There was a man bleeding on the forest floor, and she immediately approached him to see if he was still alive.
When she turned the man around and saw his face, she gasped in surprise.
She didn’t know what to do with this sudden appearance of the man that she served with her other identity.
But the man then moaned in pain, and she noticed that he was hurt badly, and he was delirious.
She looked around to find that there was a sign of struggle and dead people everywhere. By the look of their armor, they seemed to be the army of the enemy. The man should be the one who killed them.
Suddenly, the man clutched her clothes and stained it with blood, then he coughed out blood all over her.
“You’re hurt.” She couldn’t think of anything else but his wound, so she quickly scanned her surroundings and saw that everyone else was dead, before she took the man inside of her place.
He woke up when it was dark outside and he found out that his wound had been cleaned and bandaged and he was laying down on a bed in an unfamiliar room.
He blinked a couple times and he could smell a delicious smell from somewhere outside the room, so he tried to get up since he was parched. But unfortunately, his wound on his stomach was too deep, so he winced in pain when he tried to move.
As if hearing the sound, the door to the bedroom was opened and he saw the most beautiful creature he had ever seen in his whole life, and he was flabbergasted.
“You’re up.” The woman approached him and she took the glass of water on the bedside table and spoon fed him ice chips. “Slowly please.”
He wondered how long he had been sleeping for his throat to feel like it was on fire. But he slowly sucked the ice chips and waited until his throat felt better before he tried to speak.
“Where am I? Who are you?”
The man could see a flash of sadness on the woman’s face, but she quickly covered it with a smile. A smile that made his heart beat faster.
“Don’t worry, you’re safe here.” She answered after she cleared her throat.
He could see that she was also nervous and he thought that it was maybe because she was a woman alone and he was a stranger to her.
“I’m not going to do anything to you, please don’t worry.” He tried to reassure her, and he saw that she smiled.
“I’m not worried about that. You’re hurt and I have knives in my kitchen so I can stab you if you dare do something to me.”
He was surprised, but he chuckled and then coughed from the pain on his stomach.
“Now now, don’t you move around too much. I’ll bring you some food first, wait here.” She smiled and went out to come back with a bowl of piping hot porridge on a tray. “It’s pork porridge that I cooked especially for you.” She put the tray on the bedside table and propped the man up then took the bowl and a spoonful of the porridge.
“Are you… going to feed me?” The man looked at her incredulously. “I can feed myself, you know.” He tried to reach the bowl but she took it out of his reach.
“I’m sure you can, but you’re hurt now and you’re not going to be able to hold anything let alone a bowl and a spoon.” Her voice was stern and he looked so dejected.
She saw the look and chuckled.
“Don’t worry, strong man, you’re going to be up and about in no time at all. Now say aahh…”
With his status, this kind of act was punishable by law and it could cause her death in an instant. But strangely he did not want her to know his real identity, and instead he succumbed to the childlike treatment that this woman gave him – in which he enjoyed.
“I will change your bandage now, please take off your clothes.”
He blushed from the nonchalant words, and he pulled the blanket up to cover his body.
“At least tell me your name first before you start to harass me.” He glared at her, but she only shrugged like it was a daily occurrence for her.
“Sure. The name is Yingying. You?”
The man took his time to answer her question, but he finally did.
“You may call me Lan Zhan.”
