Alison

The rush of adrenaline in my veins kept me awake last night. Every inch of me was vibrating with excitement from the dominant way Jake held me against his body. The way his kiss not only shut my mouth but my thoughts, too, was amazing.

When will my husband hold me like that again? When are we going to make love? Unfortunately for me, when Jake returned from his shower, he went straight to bed.

Seeing the sun coming up with Jake sleeping peacefully by my side was a delight after last night's event. He always leaves before the boys and I are awake.

Jake stirred in bed and opened his eyes. "Good morning, honey!" I chirped. I want to show him how much I enjoy having him in my life.

"You awake." Jake's voice was husky, and he sat on the bed, stretching.

I rested my back on the bed frame and looked at him. "Yes. I fed little Jamie a while ago and didn't sleep again."

I would not tell him I could not sleep last night just because of our kiss. Jake sure would think I was silly. We shared two children. We must have kissed countless times since we met.

Jake rubbed his face and opened his mouth to say something but decided against it. I bet he would complain about me turning off the baby monitor he insists on putting on his side of the bed. Jake voices it every time he calls home in the afternoon, but I do not see the point of him feeding the baby during the night. I have help at the house. I am not overwhelmed or tired at night, so I cannot do it.

Walking to the bathroom, Jake just nodded. Today was the masquerade ball in New York, but he had not said a word about the party.

I got up and made the bed while he had his shower. When Jake returned to the room, I noticed through the mirror on my vanity that he wore casual clothes. I smiled at myself. "If Jake was staying home today, that meant we would be going to the party."

"Aren't you going to the office today?" I asked while brushing my hair.

"No. Dad isn't here until later today, and I told Mum I would give Olly a hand with collecting any last-minute things for the Halloween party tomorrow." Jake stopped fixing his watch and looked at me. "Mum also mentioned you were in charge of our Halloween costumes. What have you decided, Alison? I need to check if it fits." He sat by the end of the bed to put on his white sneakers.

Jake has not changed even after last night. He keeps calling me by my name. Has he ever called me by anything but Alison before? I will brush it off for now. "Nora didn't tell me what we dressed up as last year, then I picked The Flintstone Family. She said you never wore the costume before."

I searched his face for a reaction, but it never changed. Jake stopped to tie his shoelaces and stared at me. "You want a family costume?"

I put my hairbrush down and turned to him with anticipation. "Yes! Tommy is older now. We can go tricking or treating as a family. Your mother said everybody does it here. It will be a great opportunity for him to meet other boys his age."
