Alison
"Hello, Doctor Benson. The nurse said you wanted to see me." I greeted the young doctor and sat across from his large desk.
He looked at me with his big green eyes and smiled. "Hey Ali, how's the memory exercises going?"
I looked at him and shrugged. I did not like doing it. It was difficult. "They are all right."
Doctor Benson had a sympathetic expression. "I know they are getting trickier and trickier as you go, but this is a good thing. The brain needs to be stimulated all the time. You don't want to lose the memories you are gaining now."
I just nodded. I was not feeling great today, and I wanted to go home and lie down for a bit before collecting the children from the Manor.
"But I didn't call you here for that. Doctor White thought it was time for another tomography, and I was looking at the blood tests you did last week, and it raised some red flags with me. I need to rule out a few things before sending you back to the lab to do the test."
My eyes widened. Was I sick? "Is that something wrong with me?"
"Nothing to worry about, Ali. There are some abnormalities on your hormones, and I can't sign off another tomography if my suspicions are correct."
I looked at him, confused. "What suspicious?"
He walked to the cabinet behind him, opened a door, and got a small plastic cup. "You can use my bathroom on the left. I will need a urine sample. If you don't need to use the bathroom now, you can go have some water and I can wait for you as I have no other patients till after lunch."
I shook my head, and I would pee in that cup now. I was worried. My kids and Jake needed me. I could not be sick. They had suffered a lot with my memory loss already.
When I returned with the sample, he pointed to the counter on the left. I placed the cup there with shaky hands.
"I can see you got scared, Alison. It wasn't my intention. There isn't anything for you to fear. If I am not mistaken, the change of hormones might be something good."
He opened the other cabinet and put a box on the desk. It was like my eyes would fall off my face, and I would get sick. In the box was writing Pregnancy Test. I lifted my eyes at him and the young doctor smiled friendly.
He got a stick from its contents, walked to the counter where my urine sample was and dipped it inside the cup. He cleaned the stick and laid it on the desk.
Doctor Benson gave me a reassuring smile. "We will find out in just a few minutes. Don't worry."
How would I not be worried? In just a matter of minutes, my life would change, and my husband would hate me.
The young man asked me a few questions while we were waiting, but I was unable to speak. I glued my eyes to the stick on his desk and took deep breaths. This could not be true. Jake will be furious. He warned me now was not a good time for more children.
I clenched my hands on my lap to hold back my tears. I did not want to cry in front of the doctor.
His alarm went off and he opened a bright smile. "Congratulations, Ali, you will be a Mum again."
His mouth was moving, but I could not concentrate on what he was saying. All I could think of was when Jake found out he would blame me and kick me out of the house. The man that I love more than life itself would set me in his penthouse in New York alone and would keep me away from him and my children.
When I heard him saying something about Doctor White, I came back to reality. "What did you say?"
"I said, I will notify Doctor White of the reason I'm not signing off your next tomography. You can't have one while pregnant isn't safe for the baby. I also need to hinge you off the medication you're taking."
