Jake

The door opened, and I lifted my head from the documents I was signing, thinking it was Jessica returning to collect the paperwork. But no, I was mistaken.

I blinked my eyes to change the vision in front of me, but it never changed. Dressed in a tight red dress and black stilettos, she looked exactly like the last time I saw her here. The black stilettos helped elongate her long-toned legs, and one would never guess that Gracie had given birth to two children.

She was on top of any woman I had on my bed. Not just because she was my only love, but because she was a stunning blonde.

I was glad the boys took after me. It would be difficult to stare at them every day and not think about Gracie if they look at least a little like her. Every time I looked at them, I always remembered her deception.

Her signature mark, the perfect French red lips, smirked. "Hello, love. Did you miss me?"

"Gracie." It came out of my mouth more like a whisper. Not believing after all this time she was here. I shook my head, trying to get rid of the initial shock, and snapped. "What the fuck are you doing here, Gracie? Came to make another son and leave us behind with a ridiculous note of sorry?"

What the hell is Gracie doing in my office? Why is she back when my life was setting sail?

"Oh, my! Someone is grumpy today. That isn't the warm welcome I was expecting, Jake." Sarcasm was visible in her tone.

She sat back on my sofa smiling, rested her arms at each side on the back of it, crossed her legs and bounced the one on top several times. Was she finding amusement in my words?

I narrowed my eyes and said dryly. "Why? Because I am always stupid enough to fall for your tricks?"

I wanted her gone. I did not give her permission to sit comfortably on my couch. The amusement on her lips never faded, unnerving me.

Gracie tilted her head to the side. "I like the beard. It suits you, Jake. You are looking more handsome than you already did."

Where was she going with that? I snorted. "Do you think your flattering will get you into my bed, Gracie? That is how your games always begin, isn't it? And thinking of it, you have been doing it since we were in high school."

I glared into her light blue eyes. "Every time something didn't go in your way, you declared we should take a break and then, when suited you, you wanted to get back together."

She waved her hand and rolled her eyes. "Oh, darling, don't be dramatic. It doesn't suit you. The position of power looks good on you. That attracts me to you, Jake. Always have and always will. Being the captain of the football team at 16 was what drew me to you in high school, but what turned me off was you leaving your father's legacy to pursue something new."

What?? Is that the reason she left me with Tommy? No, it could not be. She could not have left because I left Dad's firm to pursue a new thing when she got pregnant. Gracie made that up, and I would not be brainwashed by her again.

"If that is the reason you left my sons and me, Gracie, you are the shallowest person I ever met, and I regret letting you into my life." I ran a hand through my hair. "Actually, I don't! Because you gave me something that is infinite times better than power. You birthed me two wonderful sons and for that, I should thank you."

I got up and rested my palms on the desk, leaning forward. "So now, what Gracie? You saw I was back on top. I succeeded in my new career, and decided it was time to take your puppet out of the freezer."

She leaned back and laughed. "My love, you could never be a puppet, and we both know it. Besides, that isn't the reason I am back."

Gracie does not have a place in my heart. Not anymore!!! I would not let her ruin my life again. I pointed to the door. "Get out of my office!!! I am not sure what you want from me, but whatever this is, you won't get it this time. Leave!!!"
