Jake
I pushed the bedroom door abruptly. Alison was startled and clung to her towel against her chest. She was fresh out of the shower, carrying a body lotion.
I snapped, annoyed. "I can't believe you today, Alison. After our argument this morning, you went to Teddy's house to bring him a pie you baked?" I rubbed my head from the headache I was still nursing. Has this woman lost her mind instead of her memories now?
She put the body lotion on her vanity. "You scared me, Jake. I thought it was someone invading our bedroom."
"Don't change the subject, Alison. Can you explain why this was in Teddy's hand?" I held the ring in front of her.
She looked at her empty hand and gasped. "Oh my God, I forgot it there when I had to change Jamie."
The careless woman did not even notice it was missing. "I will keep it. Tomorrow, I'll tell Jessica to get you a new ring."
She came closer and tried to take the ring from my hand. "NO!!!! You can't. It is bad luck. This is the ring you propose to me."
I lifted it. With her shorter legs, Alison would never reach it. If I were not too angry, I would be laughing at the scene of Alison holding her towel and jumping to get the ring.
Her posture looked tense. "Jake, please stop with that! It's my ring. It became mine when we got married."
My tongue scratched to tell her I never gave her anything. My mother dared to do it before asking me.
I put the ring in my pocket, and scowling, I warned her. "You shouldn't have baked Teddy a pie, Alison."
Alison looked like she would cry soon because of the ring, but when she heard me, she looked at me, amused. "Why? Are you jealous? You shouldn't be Jake. I baked one for you, too."
My eyebrow furrowed. Alison was a lunatic. How on Earth is she giving me the same thing as Teddy would comfort me if I were indeed jealous? Is a husband not superior to a person she did not even know? Alison should have prepared something special for me.
"I am not jealous, Alison. And you have not told me why you went to Teddy's house?" It came out too bitter.
She shrugged as if it were not a big deal. "You said he only agreed to do business with you because of me, so I decided to meet him. I couldn't go there empty-handed, Jake. It would be rude. Diana had gone to visit her mother. But Teddy was very welcome, and we had tea."
I crossed my arms. "Oh, so you had a tea party without his wife at the house? Gosh, Alison, you will create trouble. Diana can't cook. She won't be happy when she finds the delicious pie in her house and hears her husband was entertaining the young neighbour." Diana must be at least ten years older than Alison if not more.
She put her hands on her waist and raised an eyebrow. "Isn't Diana here making a big thing out of nothing, Jake? You are the one upset about Teddy since this morning."
