Max, Chloe, and David prepare the plan for the theft of the lamps, which would take place the following morning: David will go to the hospital as a fake maintenance man because of a problem inside the room, with Max and Chloe who, an hour before his arrival, would harness the former's power to remain undetected by tampering with the hospital computer and make everything look compatible. After working out the plan, they decide to call Joyce to the room, reassuring her that everything is okay. She knows they are lying, but nevertheless wants to give them confidence believing that this will finally allow her, David and Chloe to be a family.
"Well girls, then I will come by tomorrow to take you home."
"We thank you for your help David."
"And be sure to get some rest so you can recover from the accident."
"Alright mom, go easy."
After they say goodbye and after David and Joyce leave the room to go home, Chloe goes to hug Max.
"What do you want me to call you from now on? Max the enchantress or do I stay with SuperMax?
"It's okay if you keep calling me Max. Chloe what I did was no big deal, in fact I was afraid David would yell at me at one point and tell me to stop teasing him, I was just lucky."
"You piss me off when you say that shit. You weren't lucky, you were just great. Still you underestimate yourself when you managed to get David to help us, which if you had told me the day before I would have burst out laughing, and instead look where we are now."
"In the hospital."
*Chloe laughs sarcastically* "What a laugh, anyway now we can take advantage of this moment and relax, these days have been far too eventful even by my standards.
"First though, I want to check how Kate is doing, since she is also here in the hospital."
"About Kate, I was a total dick for blowing a fuse when you answered Kate's call the other day. Good thing you ignored. I had no idea what shit she was going through, and you saved her... like me. I'm sorry."
"Thanks, Chloe. But don't be sorry. We're all on the same team."
"Team Max."
Max leaves the room and goes to Kate's, with the latter welcoming her with open arms and worrying about her seeing her wearing her hospital gowns knowing about the incident.
"Max, I heard just now on the news about the accident, are you okay?"
"Yes Kate, luckily I got off lightly, the important thing is to know that you are okay."
"I'm fine Max, and seeing you here I'm even better. I'm grateful to you for getting me off the roof. I felt so alone and lost, but seeing how much you cared for me made me realize I wasn't alone. Thank you."
"Kate, there are so many people who want to help you and who love you."
"I know, you should see all the letters and postcards. I gave most of the flowers to other patients because they need them more than me, I'm keeping the balloons, though. One of the nurses gave me some pen and paper so I could do some drawings."
"I love your illustrations."
"They got kind of dark there for a while, but I have an idea for a new children's book about bullying, I was thinking of having some photographs in there too."
"I hope that's a subtle hint that you'll let me take the photographs for the book..."
"Was that subtle? You better take the pictures Max. I'm going to be here for another day until my family comes out to visit."
"How are they treating you?"
"Like they need to protect me forever. They're so upset and i know they feel guilty, even though they didn't do anything. I was surprised how many Blackwell students wrote me. Daniel, Mr. Jefferson, and even Victoria wrote me a very sweet note, and I believe she was being real."
"Me too. I'm glad you believe again, Kate. Listen Kate, whatever I'm in the other room for, don't mind if you want to talk to me and Chloe to pass the time."
"Sure Max, thank you for everything."
Max at this point leaves the room to return to his own and talk to Chloe.
"Well, how is she?"
"She is still Kate Marsh."
