Over the months there has been talk about the trial that would take place against Nathan Prescott and Mark Jefferson, who as a result of evidence gathered by police and testimony from people such as Kate Marsh it was certain would be sentenced to more than 50 years in prison for child abduction and drugging the aforementioned. The final judgment would then occur in March of that year.

Kate Marsh

During the holiday season, Kate has managed, thanks largely to the financial support of Victoria and her family, to finish and get her book published, which was quite a success and will hit the shelves not only in Arcadia Bay but throughout Oregon over the months. As happy as she was about this, dealing with Nathan and Jefferson again by having to testify against them wore her down psychologically, but thanks to the support of her family and Blackwell, she recovered after a short time.

Vortex Club

Arcadia Bay's longest-running group disbanded earlier this month, as the lack of financial support from Sean Prescott, who was committed to his son's cause, and the departure of many of the personalities who were the group's spearhead marked its end.

Max and Chloe

Over the Christmas vacations Max returned to Seattle until New Year's Eve to celebrate with her family, finally being able to get away from the studio for a while. The meetings with the psychologist are paying off, and Max is finally beginning to stop seeing her powers as a curse, but she remains certain that no longer using them will be good for everyone. Chloe and David's relationship also seemed to be improving, so much so that Joyce was finally able to find that familial normalcy she had been so searching for since William's death, or so it seemed.

*Clears cell phone* "Hey Chloe."

"Max I need to ask you something: is it okay if I come and stay in the Blackwell dorm at your place?"

"No, although I don't think you'd be comfortable in the bed, since it's bad enough that I'm going in there."

"Even sleeping on the floor is enough for me."

"Chloe, did you have a fight with Joyce or David?"

"You got Einstein, and meanwhile before you can think I'm the bad guy, David is the one who apparently hasn't lost his old habits."

"If you tell me what happened I might understand the situation better."

"You know very well that since Rachel died and Frank left I haven't touched an inch of weed, and I've been working together with Mom for a month to help with the rent."

"I know that very well Chloe, and you're doing great."

"I was able to set aside some money for Mom and David to send them to a hot spring at Hart Mountain as a gift from their first meeting, even though it had already been months. The fact is that I've been quite evasive over the last week because I wanted to surprise them, and David as we were having lunch asked me if I had gone back to drugs because of my strange attitude. I was so pissed off and disappointed that I didn't even answer him and went upstairs."

"Chloe, I'm so sorry about what happened."

"Can you believe it? I worked my ass off to give them a gift and this is the thanks I get! I'll see you soon."

Chloe grabs her backpack, puts the gift and some clothes inside and leaves the room. Before leaving the house David stops her.

"Chloe, we need to talk."

"What about? About the fact that you don't trust me?"

"It's not that I don't trust you, but it's undeniable that your attitude is suspicious, and excuse me for caring."

"So the first thing you think is that I'm back to using drugs! That's your consideration of me?!

"David, Chloe, now calm down. I'm pretty sure there's been a misunderstanding, and we can work it out without all this hostility. David you shouldn't have gone off on such an accusation, and you Chloe certainly aren't doing drugs, but we'd still like to know why you've been so dodgy these days."

"It's amazing how I can't show myself any different from the usual you fear who knows what."

"Well taking into account who you used to hang out with in the past, I'd say that's the least."

"DAVID!" Joyce shouts.

Chloe at this point reaches into her backpack and pulls out the gift she was supposed to give Joyce and David later.

"Chloe, so this is what you were hiding?"

"That's right, Mom. Surprise. I wanted to wait until the 27th which was the day you first met to give it to you, but instead it all went to shit."

"Chloe, I think my apology would not be enough for how I treated you. I acted like a jerk again, and I imagine you'll be angry now."

"I'm not angry David, but disappointed. Disappointed because you didn't think about how much it would hurt me to hear that after all we've been through you still don't trust me. I am trying hard, and this gift was supposed to be a demonstration that I love both you and Mom, but apparently that was not the case. I'll be staying a few days at Max's, so you have nothing to worry about."

Chloe leaves her home, with David furious with himself for souring his relationship with Chloe, and Joyce sorry for what happened. After leaving home, Chloe takes a bus and reaches Blackwell, then goes to the women's dormitory knocking on Max's door.

*Knock Knock* Max opens the door.

"Hi."

"Hi."

"Can I come in or do we keep making eye contact? Not that I mind."

Max lets Chloe in, who sets up her backpack and then sits down to talk to Max about what happened.

"In the end, I gave them the gift, but because I couldn't take that kind of accusation anymore. I wanted to do something special for them, but it didn't go as planned."

"I can imagine how you feel now Chloe, it must be bad when you try to do something good and get misunderstood."

"Consider that Mom had noticed something, but didn't think anything negative of it, while David as usual fails to let common sense prevail. I felt hurt Max, because it seemed like things could work out with him and he finally managed to put aside that jerk side he had with me for years, but I was wrong."

"I don't think David did it with bad intentions, because you can see that he loves you and is finally starting to be more open than before, but like everyone he is a human being and therefore subject to mistakes. When you get home talk to him about how you feel and things I won't say will be fixed right away, but at least it's already a start."

"I'll try, thank you Max."

"Sure. Listen, since you're staying here with me tonight, what do you say we have a movie marathon? Warren lent me his flash drive, and he's put on a lot of new movies, including Blade Runner."

"FUCK YES, you always know just the right way to get me in a good mood again."

"You are my best friend as well as girlfriend, I know you like the back of my hand."
