Chapter 18. Theft Part 2

After leaving the room, Max and Chloe search for the computer in which to insert David's name so that he can disassemble the UV lamps without arousing suspicion. After about ten minutes, they manage to find the main computer, which is obviously occupied by a technical operator.

"Now what do we do Chloe?"

"Since no one is around just have the guy step away from the chair and proceed."

"Doesn't it seem strange to you that apart from the operator there is hardly anyone around here? It seems made especially for us."

"Considering it's early in the morning, it's obvious that many nurses are behind the patients, so we have the green light. I'll proceed to remove him, you having the powers you can always go back in case someone notices you."

"Clear."

Chloe implements the plan by distracting the operator by asking him to fix an electronic problem in their room, so Max has the green light to tamper with the computer. The whole thing seems successful, until someone notices Max behind the computer, consequently using his power. The whole thing is successful, except that now his arm is sore and as a result Max realizes he should not strain it too much.

"Did it go well?"

"Yes, but I had to rewind because I got caught, let's just hope the rest of the plan works."

"Perfect, now all we have to do is wait for David and after he's finished leave with him."

9:00 a.m.

"Hi, this is maintainer David Madsen, I was called about a problem related to some UV lamps that are not working and need to be disassembled."

"Sorry but no one called you, plus there is no record of your name or the malfunction of these lamps."

"If you try to check the computer you will see that everything matches."

"You're right, strange though that they didn't notify. Follow me."

The operator takes David inside the room, who is left alone to deal with the "problem." With the tools of the trade David manages with no small amount of trouble to disassemble the lamps and place them in a special container to prevent damage, and then goes to Max and Chloe.

"So?" Max and Chloe say.

"Mission accomplished." David says, hinting at a smile.

"You've been a great help, thank you David."

"Now you've risen in rank: now I can call you Macgyver."

"I prefer dear old David, now let's go away because this has destabilized me and not a little."

"All right."

As they leave the room, Max notices the nurse from this morning running around the hospital. She doesn't pay too much attention to it, but she has like a cold chill running down her spine. As they leave the hospital, Max, Chloe, and David notice many people near the entrance: they are Warren, Victoria, Daniel, Dana, Alyssa, Stella, and Brooke.

"SURPRISE!" They all say in chorus.

"Unbelievable, you came all this way for Kate and me, I didn't expect something so nice."

"When we heard about the accident we were so worried about you, but when we called Joyce she reassured us that you and Chloe were fine, we decided we wanted to surprise you to show how much we care. You should have seen Victoria how flustered she was." Says Warren

"I wasn't! I was sorry about the accident but I wasn't flustered."

Warren approaches Max and whispers to her:

"She wants to be tough, but she was worried about you."

"Listen Victoria, about what happened last night, I am so sorry for insulting and hitting you in front of Prof. Jefferson. I was a first-class bitch."

"You're wrong Max, I was wrong all the way around. You even reacted in a calm way for what I deserved, for saying those things about Kate and for treating the professor that way. I know it will be hard to forgive me, but I want to try to keep a civil relationship and not be angry and bitter toward you or others all the time."

"It's a credit to you Victoria, and I thank you for those kind words."

Max hugs Victoria, who reciprocates, to the applause of everyone there.

"Now that we've witnessed something more unique than rare, obviously after the sudden eclipse, I'd say let's go say hello to Kate." Says Warren

"Say hello to her for us too, now we go home to rest."

"Bye Max."
