IT WAS FINALLY HARRY'S TURN. This was the make-or-break moment; the final decision-maker for so much more than the tournament. Throughout the crowd, everyone was perched at the edge of their seats as Harry walked into the grounds. The minuscule, ant-sized figure ironically clad in red, stood a few feet away from the gate he was let through, staring at his dragon of choice: the Hungarian Hortail.Fluer had gotten a score of twenty-nine, securing her place at third, bumping Cedric up to second. The Beaubaton student's hopes were crushed furthermore by Viktor Krum's fascinating trial, earning him a fabulous and deserved forty points, securing first place. Now it all rested on Harry. He could join any of these ranks, besides any of the champions but Harry's win or loss would hold a lot more value to a lot of people in the crowd. Around the stadium, bets had been pooling in over the kid's possible score and rank – monetary, materialistic, emotional and every other possible thought or thing one could wager.
For the Tykes, at least for the two who had put forth a rather daunting wager, the question remained to be between the choice of a skinny dip in a lake in the middle of winter or having your first kiss with someone from your past to right some wrongs but have it in a very very public way.
Both the alternate options were attractive to the wagerers in question – the 'kisser' would rather skinny dip and the 'dipper' would rather do the public kiss.
So emotions were at an all-time high with this round.
Cassie watched with bated breath, her hands clasping Ron's (who had climbed over his seat to sit next to Cassie, swapping with Dean somewhere in the middle of Krum's turn). Harry's tiny figure raised his wand and waited ... along with the rest of the crowd. Apart from Hermione and Cassie, the entire audience was bemused at Harry's move.
Was he just gonna wait there?
However, his two friends who were in on the secret had their eyes peeled towards the sky like the boy, staring at the sight of his familiar and trusty broom and within seconds, it was hurtling toward him around the edge of the woods, soaring into the enclosure, and stopping dead in mid-air beside him, waiting for him to mount.
"Okay, I agree, that is a genius move" Blaise breathed out, stunned at the idea; Cassie's mouth twisting into a smug grin, her chest swelling with pride.
The crowd was making even more noise; Bagman was shouting something but Cassie couldn't hear it as she was too busy watching Ron pull his hand free, break out of his shell and yell, cupping his mouth to make him sound louder, saying 'You can do this, Harry!'.
Hermoine and Cassie shared a little chuckle at Ron's crossed fingers and focused eyes on his best friend.
They were going to be okay.
Harry swung his leg over the broom and kicked off from the ground, soaring above and staring at the dragon, planning his next move.
And then he dived. The Horntail's head followed him; he knew what it was going to do and pulled out of the dive just in time; a jet of fire had been released exactly where he would have been had he not swerved away. Cassie let out a huge sigh of relief, making Blaise immediately clasp Cassie's hand, earning a rather painfully tight squeeze (not that he minded).
"Great Scott, he can fly!" yelled Bagman as the crowd shrieked and gasped. "Are you watching this, Mr. Krum?"
From the infirmary, Viktor was smirking to himself, Cassie's words ringing in his head.
"She really wasn't lying," he mumbled under his breath in Bulgarian, watching the fourteen-year-old and his extraordinary flying skills.
Harry soared higher in a circle; the Horntail was still following his progress; its head revolving on its long neck – if he kept this up, it would be nicely dizzy – but better not push it too long, or it would be breathing fire again – Harry plummeted just as the Horntail opened its mouth, but this time he was less lucky – he missed the flames, but the tail came whipping up to meet him instead, and as he swerved to the left, one of the long spikes grazed his shoulder, ripping his robes –
