‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"It's so cute."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"They look alike, no?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Merlin, you're right — oh, she's awake."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N's brows drew together at the voices. Something warm shifted on her chest, vibrating with a tiny purr. She lifted one hand, expecting a blanket or a pillow, and found fur instead. When she forced her eyes open, Kipper was there, perched on her like she owned the place, one paw tucked in and the other busy with grooming.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Kipper?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎The blue-eyed Siamese blinked at her, then yawned straight into her face. Y/N recoiled a little from the blast of tuna breath and whatever else the cat had gotten into overnight. Two girls surrounded her — Sophie and Aurora, their faces bright with amusement. Sophie wore a smirk. Aurora looked pleased.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Is that your cat, Y/N/N?" Sophie asked.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N frowned. "Y/N/N?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Aurora made a face like she was trying not to laugh. "I think we're past casualties now, don't you think, Y/N/N?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Sophie reached toward Kipper, fingers light as she stroked the cat's fur. "You never said you had a cat this cute."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"I . . . " Y/N ran a hand through her messy hair and sat up a little, careful not to disturb Kipper. "I was wondering where she'd gone last night."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Sophie lifted a hand from Kipper's back. "You didn't know your cat was missing?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N glanced down at the cat again. Kipper had settled into her chest as if it were her usual place in the world, eyes half-lidded and unconcerned with the attention she was getting.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Aurora folded her arms. "She was prowling around the room earlier. We thought she belonged to someone else."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N kept her eyes on the feline. "No, yeah, she's my cat."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Aurora laughed under her breath and sat on the edge of the bed, careful not to crowd her. "She climbed onto your bed before you woke up. Then she just stayed there."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N scratched under Kipper's chin, and the cat decided that was acceptable. "I guess she just took a bit of a tour last night."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Sophie pointed at the animal. "She ignored both of us."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"She's not much of a people-person," Y/N said.
