‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"I mean, come on," Sophie said, arms splayed across the table littered with books. "He took off, like, ten points from Gryffindor, but only gave Ravenclaw one? He's not even trying to hide his favouritism!"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N flicked through Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, shrugging her shoulders as her finger traced the lines. "Oh, well."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"How did you guys find Astronomy yesterday?" asked Aurora, seated beside Y/N, reading a book titled The Heptarchy of the Heavens. "I found it to be quite enjoyable."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"It was alright," replied Sophie, stretching her arm to pick up a random book just so she could have something to do with her hands. "Better than History of Magic, at least."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Ugh," Seraphina rolled her eyes. "Anything is better than History of Magic."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"I disagree."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N and the others looked up from their books and saw Hermione Granger's face above them. She hugged a book thicker than her head to her chest.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Sorry?" Aurora asked.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"History of Magic is fascinating," Hermione said. "It's the very foundation of our society! If you don't understand the Goblin Rebellions of 1612, how can you possibly hope to navigate modern wizarding law?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎She shifted the massive book in her arms, her eyes darting between the four of them before landing — with a linger of recognition — on Y/N.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Besides," Hermione tilted her chin up, "Professor Binns may be . . . a bit, well, you know, but the material is objective. Unlike Potions, where the grading seems to depend on how much Snape dislikes your house."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Or how much he likes your last name," Seraphina said under her breath, then glanced at Y/N. "Don't you think, celebrity?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Y/N didn't look up from her page. Her finger continued its steady trek across the parchment, tracing the anatomy of a Graphorn. "Mhm."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Aurora blinked, looking from Hermione to the heavy tome she was clutching. "That's a lot of extra reading for a Thursday, isn't it? A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"It's light reading," Hermione turned a slight shade of pink. "I wanted to cross-reference his lecture on the Medieval Assembly of European Wizards. There were several inconsistencies in the introductory chapter."
