"This fudge is amazing," Aurora said, holding a piece up to Y/N. "Try it."
Y/N glanced down at the block of fudge between Aurora's fingers, then back at her. "I'm good."
"Oh, please?" Aurora asked, not backing down. "Just a bite."
Y/N stared at her for a moment before taking the piece from her fingers. She took a small bite before setting it down on her plate. The fudge was sweet enough to make her regret ever agreeing to it, though she chewed without complaint.
Aurora laughed and took another piece for herself. "There. Was that so difficult?"
It had been several weeks since the first night at Hogwarts, and over time, life in the castle settled into a routine. Quidditch practice occupied three evenings a week now, sometimes more when Mark was feeling ambitious. Y/N practised with Harry now and then because Mark and Oliver Wood had decided that the two first-years would benefit from training together whenever their schedules overlapped.
To his credit, Harry improved fast. Y/N had expected that much after their race, though she had not expected him to become so resolute. He was still rough around the edges, but he was quick to learn when someone showed him what he was doing wrong. Oliver seemed pleased with him, while Mark remained determined to make Y/N work harder than everyone else.
The rest of school had been less interesting — most of Y/N's lessons were, in her opinion, dreadful.
The material itself was scarcely difficult. She had already covered much of it years ago through her private tutors and advanced lessons, and sitting through explanations of concepts she could have performed in her sleep required more patience than she possessed. She kept up with the work regardless — if only because there was no point doing poorly just because the curriculum was behind what she already knew.
Hermione and Y/N were, well . . . complicated, to say the least. They weren't friends, but things between them had stopped being as hostile as they had been during their first weeks at Hogwarts. They spoke when they needed to, sometimes sat near one another during meals, and had even worked together once or twice when a lesson required it. Neither made any actual attempt to fix things, but neither seemed interested in continuing the silent treatment either.
