It was a brand-new day at Squidbeak HQ. Thankfully, things have quieted down since the invasion of District 3 and the arrival of Krystal. No octos were spotted, no fights were broken, and no rumors were spread. However, this wasn't Marie's ideal Squidbeak HQ because she wanted Callie back ASAP. Little did she know, a few rest days would be crucial for this mission, mainly because they have a new face in the HQ, not to mention that the new face was also once their enemy. Who knows what would happen if she betrayed her trust?
So that's what the gap days have been for. Keeping an eye on the Octoling.
As morning rose upon the—
*thump thump thump*
Oh, come on, what now?
Krystal: Open up, James! Open uuuup!
It seems like James locked his door this time... Smart move.
*thump thump*
Krystal: Come on, James! Get up, sleepyhead! *she says, banging on his door*
James: *groan* Oh, come on, Krystal. What is it now?
Krystal: I'll tell you once you get your sleepy ass up and open this door!
James: Jeez, give me a minute!
Despite Krystal's impatience, James took a minute to adjust his eyes and get out of bed to open his bedroom door.
James: *while opening the door* Alright, what do you wa—
Krystal: I'm sick of sleeping on the couch! My back hurts, and I can't sleep comfortably!
Even though his vision was hazy, he could tell she was angry, like a little sibling complaining to their mom. She had her fists clenched beside her hips and stared furiously at James. She wore a cute, oversized hoodie, making James struggle to take her seriously.
James: *yawn* Listen, if you have a problem, take it up with Marie...
Krystal: That old granny? You're telling me she runs this place?!
James: Basically, yeah. I only joined this team... like a month ago?
Krystal: *groan* Whatever. Never mind, then! I'd rather sleep on the floor than talk to her!
James: Okay, not my problem.
He slammed the door in front of her. She stood there quietly.
Krystal: Well... at least it's better than what I used to sleep on. *shrug*
Hours later, in the control room...
Marie: Looking at the last few days, the radar hasn't shown signs of any octolings or octarians in the Octo Canyon.
James: Mmhmm...
Marie: Wouldn't you find that odd? I mean, we've found spies and raiders many times before, so this is new to us.
James: Maybe check if the radar is working correctly. If it's out of the ordinary, we should at least check that it's true.
Marie: You think they're looking for Krystal?
James: According to her, she had a pretty big role. I wouldn't be surprised.
Marie: Alright, I'll check the rooftop radar. Sit tight. I'll be right back.
Marie started making her way to the door.
James: Actually, there was one thing I had to ask you.
Marie: Yeah? *she says, looking back at him*
James: It's about Krystal.
Marie immediately turned her whole body to face James.
James: She keeps telling me... she hates sleeping on the couch.
