Chapter 5: Squidbeak HQ

It was 7 am and James was sound asleep in his bed. It was quite bright outside, with the sun fully risen. The sun shone brightly on James' face, but being the deep sleeper he is, he didn't fully wake up to it, at least not this time.

???: 4? 4? Come in, 4!

Coming from a small device on his bedside table, a voice sounded like it wanted James' full attention.

???: 4! Are you there?

James: Ah-! *he jumps out of bed* Uh... y-yeah, I copy.

???: I need you to come to the Squidbeak Splatoon HQ asap.

James: Uh... okay. I'll be there soon.

???: Alright, see you then. Agent 2 out.

*beep*

James: Oh, squit! I gotta get ready!

James quickly threw some casual clothes on. On his way out, he grabbed a protein bar from the pantry and was on his way out until...

Harry: You're up early. What's the rush for?

James: Oh, I uh...

James didn't know what to say. Obviously, he wouldn't tell Harry that he's on the Squidbeak Splatoon. He had to give a good reason.

James: I got an early shift at Grizzco today.

Harry: Oh, you work for Grizzco now?

James: Yeah, I might disappear sometimes during the day, and that's why.

Harry: But you're gonna make so much being a professional turf war-

James: Sorry, I gotta go, Harry. I'll see ya later.

Harry: Oh, okay. Bye, Ja-

Before Harry could say goodbye, James was already out the door, and he shut the door behind himself.

James: Well that was a conversation I definitely didn't wanna have.

James got into his car, started the engine, and was on his way to the Squidbeak Splatoon HQ.

Since going through that drain was the only way James knew how to get to the Squidbeak Splatoon base, he had to get through there without anyone noticing.

There were a lot more people at Inkopolis than there was yesterday morning, so James just had to make sure no one would see him going through the drain.

James: Okay, I'll wait for the right time, and...

Without anyone noticing, James slickly changed into squid form and went down the drain to the Squidbeak Splatoon base.

James popped out the other side of the drain, and Marie was waiting for him there.

Marie: Great to see you again.

James: Yep. Great to be back here.

Marie: You're probably wondering why I called you over here so early, especially when you had only just woken up.

James: How did you...

Marie: Believe me, James, I can tell many things from someone's voice.

James: (Interesting...)

Marie: Anyway, I brought you here because I wanted to give you a little tour of the Squidbeak Splatoon HQ, just so you could get to know a little more about the place since you're going to be here so often. Here, follow me.

James followed Marie to the Squidbeak Splatoon HQ, which was quite close to the shack and training grounds, which shouldn't be a surprise.

James: Wow... So this is where all the agent stuff goes down?
