-The next day-
Squidbeak HQ, a lively place... well, not as lively as it used to be. Nowadays, it's just Marie and James. Well, James isn't there all the time. He still lives with his mates.
James: I'm back again already?
Yes, James was back at the HQ for the third time in a row, but what could it be for this time?
*knock knock*
*click*
Marie: Ah, James. Come in. I wanna have a chat with you.
James: (A chat? What could it be about this time? I just wanna relax) Sure.
They went inside the HQ room where two scrolls were spread out on the main desk. It immediately caught James' attention.
James: Is this about the scrolls.
Marie: Yep. The two scrolls you picked up in District 2 caught my attention. I wanted to have a quick skim over them, but I want your input now that I have read them.
James was already invested. Maybe these scrolls can help with the information of the octarians.
James: What are they about?
Marie: Have a look for yourself. Actually, I'll read them out to you. This one is very interesting.
James: I'm hooked. Lay it on me, Agent 2.
Marie: With pleasure.
Marie started dramatically reading the scroll to James.
"Our plan as a team of Octarians is to take one of the most popular celebrities, Callie from the Squid Sisters, and make her our own. The picture below is the hypnotism mask we will be using to hypnotise her to go under our rule. The secret behind the mask is its ability to brainwash her into thinking she's an Octoling, as well as one of the Generals in our Octarian team. The only downside to this mask is that she still keeps her past memories in her brain while the mask is on. Fortunately, this may not be a problem as those memories never come to the holder's mind."
Marie then flips over the scroll to show the picture of the mask.
Marie: They really need to use their words better. These look more like goggles to me.
James chuckled.
James: Aren't you feeling bad about this? That's your cousin they're talking about!
Marie: I know, but she's already under their rule. At least we know what they're doing with her now.
James: You're right. These scrolls have come to great use.
Marie stared at the scroll for a while.
James: You alright, Marie?
Marie: Yeah, I just find it weird how they have all these scrolls just lying around.
James: It is quite weird, yeah... I'm not too worried about it, though.
Marie: Let's move on, shall we? *she pulls out the second scroll* Here's scroll number two.
James: What's it about?
Marie: You'll see. *she clears her throat* Ahem.
"After careful examination, we are 90% sure that the Squidbeak Splatoon have finally retired. Because of this, our plan of hypnotising Callie is a go. We have tested the brainwashing mask on our Octarians, and we can confirm that it still works almost perfectly. Callie will finally make us stronger and give us enough power to take over Inkopolis. We'll start taking over a few days after we get Callie from them."
Marie closed the scroll.
*silence*
Marie: So, they were gonna take over Inkopolis, huh?
James: ... yeah...
Marie: We're actually stopping them from doing it, huh?
James: Yeah. We just wanted to get Callie back from them. This is a whole other story.
Marie: Do you understand the importance of this mission now?
James: I do. I always have.
Marie: Well, this just takes it to another level.
James: I know.
Marie: We have to take this seriously, James.
James: I was already taking it seriously.
Marie: No, you don't get it. I need you to move in here.
James froze.
*silence*
James: *sigh* Not now, Marie. I already told you, I'm moving in if my priorities get crowded and they clash.
Marie: That's the problem, James. I need you to prioritise this heavily over your Turf War stuff.
James: I already am, Marie. At this point, Turf War is the least of my worries-
*brrring brrring*
James' squidphone was ringing.
James: Excuse me.
James picked up the call.
James: Hello?
Harrison: Hey James. I got some good news.
James: Oh? What is it?
Harrison: Our first heat is next week!
James: Huh? What for?
Harrison: Turf war, bro!
James: Oh! Yeah, right! I forgot about that!
Harrison: You better not forget about it, because we could become turf war champions!
James: Yeah.
Harrison: Doesn't that sound cool? 'Turf War Champions'?
James: It does sound cool, yeah.
Harrison: You're the leader of this team, so you better bring us to victory!
James: Hey, we're rookies, bro. I don't expect us to win instantly.
Harrison: But wouldn't it be cool to win? We'd be celebrities!
James: Hey, don't focus on the future, alright? Focus on now. If we focus on now, that could most likely be our future, so don't say "What if?", just focus on the present.
Harrison: Alright. I'll see you soon.
James: See you, bro.
*beep*
He hung up.
James put his phone back in his pocket. Now Turf War was on his mind. He has two priorities at the moment. What is he going to do now? That's what he thought.
Marie: Who was that?
James: A friend.
Marie: One of the guys you stay with?
James: Yeah.
Marie: What did you talk about?
James: Private stuff. I'd rather not tell you. *he lied*
Marie: Okay. Anyway, back to what I was saying-
*knock knock*
Marie: Who could that be?
A/N:
What's up, my fellow squids and kids? I apologise for the somewhat late chapter. I had this one ready about a week ago, but I just forgot to post it. I've never ended a chapter on something like this, so please tell me if it's a good thing to leave chapters on something like a cliffhanger. Anyway, I'll see you all in the next chapter of Hero's Charge!
