⁂⁂⁂
"You should've seen her Cade. She was so broken." The sadness I'm feeling slips into my voice.
"I'm sorry Ophelia is hurting because of me Pigtales." He apologises again and tightens his hold around my waist.
"I know you are." I run my hand up and down his forearm, enjoying the warmth emanating from his body pressed behind mine.
"But I just can't help feeling like shit." I let out a deep breath.
Cade effortlessly turns me around to meet his face. His eyes read my saddened face, before he speaks.
"Hey look at me." He uses his fingers to raise my chin up to look him in the eyes again, preventing me from dropping them onto the bed.
"Stop blaming yourself Freya. This isn't your fault." Cade tries to convince me, but I shook my head in denial.
"Then why does it feel like it is?" Without any warning, tears start filling up in my eyes, blurring my vision from Cade's beautiful face.
He doesn't respond to my pressing question. Instead, he latches his lips onto mine and I easily fall in line with the way he chooses to comfort me, pushing back my tears.
"Don't cry Freya. Please don't." He says in between our soft and gentle kiss. I pull myself closer to him, despite our already very close position.
"I hate seeing these beautiful hazel eyes of yours water with tears. It makes me feel like the shittiest human alive." He adds again and a little laugh escapes my lips.
We pull apart from each other's lips and Cade bores his eyes into mine. My heart is already thudding hard against my ribcage and I momentarily forgot about my sadness and the cause of it in the first place.
Cade runs his tongue over his lips, before bringing both of his hands to cup my cheeks. The warmness of his palm meets the heat of my face.
"None of what happened between Ophelia and I is your fault Freya." He assist his assuring words with a kiss on my forehead.
"We can't control what we feel and who we grow and have feelings for." His voice is in a lower octave and it adds to the number of things Cade causes to happen in my body.
"I could've easily chosen to tell Ophelia I liked her just to reciprocate her feelings for me and not hurt her. But at the end of the day, what will truly hurt her is finding out I lied to her and pretended to like her just to protect her heart." He rubs my cheeks with his thumbs.
"No what will truly hurt her is finding out we are together and we've had feelings for each other this whole time and kept it secret from her." The tears that Cade dried up from my eyes with his addictive lips and intoxicating kiss starts to rush back in again.
"You don't know that. She may respond to us differently." I throw him a pointed look.
"She's my best friend Cade. This is Ophelia, my best friend we're talking about. And I'm her best friend, who's dating the guy she got rejected by." I say seriously, but the edge of Cade's lip raise into a smirk.
