⁂⁂⁂
Chemical by Post Malone plays softly at the background through the quiet car space.
Daya has her head rested on my left shoulder, silently humming the lyrics of the music.
Every now and then, Jacob's eyes would clash with mine through the rear-view mirror and I would immediately avert my gaze.
There's guilt and shame in his eyes. He knows what he did was too fucked up and I'm still so fucking mad at him.
"I'm gonna miss you, you know?" Daya says softly, gaining my attention.
"I'm gonna miss you too." I tell her. She takes my hand and intertwines our fingers.
Today is the day Daya leaves to The Netherlands. We are all currently going to the airport to see her off. Yes, we are that sentimental about her leaving.
Jacob, April, Daya and I took one car. While, Cade, Ophelia, Zayn and Dylan are following us from behind in another car.
"These are cute." Daya refers to my rings, raising my fingers up to her face to access them more properly.
"Yeah they are." I smile like an idiot. An idiot for Cade apparently.
Wait, what does that even mean?
"Looks like you and Cade are the ring buddies in our group." She casually points out and that alone increases my heart rate.
"It seems so." I attempt to brush it off as calmly as possible.
I wait for Daya to say something, but she doesn't. So I keep quiet too and calm my fast paced beating heart.
I avert my eyes to the view in front of the car and I catch Jacob's eyes through the rear-view mirror yet again. This time, he's staring at Daya, struggling to keep his eyes between her and the road.
I can't really tell all that he's probably feeling right now, but I can still see love in his eyes— love he clearly still has for Daya.
But there's also regret and guilt. Just then, our eyes clash again. We hold a stare for some seconds and I'm pretty sure Jacob forgot he was driving.
"Eyes on the road Maxwell." April snaps us out of our visual contact, looking concerned about his driving.
"Sorry." He mutters sharply.
"Jeez! I'm too young to die Jacob. Do you know how many car accid—" April throws at him.
"April he already said sorry." Daya interrupts, now connecting eyes with her ex. I witness the little smile Jacob shows at her, making me wish I actually punched him for doing what he did yesterday.
