⁂⁂⁂
Freya unconsciously jiggles her legs that on my laps, while busily styling her nails.
An unstoppable smile has been present on my lips in response to how my girlfriend has been acting today.
For any other couple, it is normal to show and share feelings publicly without restrictions. But not Freya and I's situation.
Although, she has chosen to ditch her own rules of barricading any sort of affectionate act in front of people today.
Just like she's simply resting her legs on my laps right now, she kissed me earlier in the kitchen— even if she knew anyone could've walked in on us. And even in the car too.
It's like she's finally thinking of her own happiness, instead of giving into the fear that's always holding her back and I couldn't be more proud of her.
"You like?" She shows me her star designed fixed nails and I chuckle at the fact that she's asking for my opinion.
"It's pretty." She smiles and resumes her work. Just then, my phone starts ringing besides me.
I grab the device from the couch and immediately I see the caller, my heart stopped for a second.
Freya takes her legs off me, but my eyes still stay on my phone screen.
"Aren't you gonna get that?" She asks softly. Forcing a head nod in response, I stand on my feet.
Zayn and Ophelia seem like they are in a different world entirely, being consumed in what they're doing on the coffee table and not minding us behind them.
Aware that the call is gonna end before I walk out of the house to pick up, I answer and place my phone against my ear.
"Cade?" The voice of a familiar man comes through and I mentally trace back to the last time I heard his voice.
It's been so long.
"Dad?" There is so much uncertainty in my voice, despite the fact that I saw his name on the caller ID and heard his own voice.
"Yes son, it's me." It feels foreign hearing him call me that after so long.
Lost of what to say, I keep my eyes on the scenery outside the Maxwells mansion and wait for my Father to continue speaking further.
"How have you been?" He ask.
Proving that my idea of my relationship with him being in an unsteady ground, I await to hear the sadness and anger in his voice that I'm sure he feels towards me.
