⁂⁂⁂
"You're here? I was just about to call." I meet my Mom walking down the stairs just as Cade and I step into my house.
"And I see you brought company." A knowing smile of some sort creeps onto her lips and all I could do was offer her a pointed look.
"Good evening Mrs Carson." Cade says politely, then walks to her and takes her hand to place a kiss on the back of it.
He's really basking in pride that my Mom likes him and he's charming his way into her favoritism more.
I feel like barfing.
My Mom blushes with a surprised look on her face mixed with amusement.
"You can call me May." She insists and the smile doesn't disappear from her face. My eyes haven't rolled as hard as they just did.
"Freya, you've got a gentleman here." Cade turns to me with a pleased smirk. At this moment, I felt like kissing or punching that smirk off. Probably the latter.
"Mom, Cade will be joining us for dinner." I take his arm and interlace our fingers. Her eyes follow my movement carefully, but I could also feel Cade's gaze on me.
"Is that okay?"
"Of course." She says happily.
Despite how freaking weird I find my Mom acting merrily around my boyfriend, it's a million times better than how she's been around me for a while now.
She walks to kitchen and we follow her behind. My tummy grumbles in hunger and Cade laughs.
"Shut up." I tell him with an unstoppable smile.
"I wouldn't have been able to do that if your Dad was around." Cade mutters, referring to his gentlemen display and I laughed.
"Yeah, you'd probably or realistically be six feet underground by now." I state factually and he laughs.
"So have you decided on what you wanna make?" My Mom ask when we step into the kitchen. I see the number of grocery bags sitting on the Island.
Cade walks past me, then takes a long stool around the Island and makes himself comfortable.
"I don't know. My crave is kinda all over the place." Since I started taking my medication, I've been gaining appetite to eat again.
"I wanna make spaghetti and meatballs, but then also my all time favorite, mashed potatoes and fried chicken." I tell no one in particular as I look through the food items my Mom brought.
