Zamasu's words were shocking to you at first. But, it only took you a few hours before you confronted him on the matter. You felt your heart twinge with regret at the thought, but this was also something that he had done without nothing more than the influence of justice. He had thousands of years to ponder over the cycle of mortality, and it could have ended much differently had you never gone to visit his universe in the first place.
That's all that it took for your paths to diverge from the original timeline. One decision.
He was openly admitting this mistake, he was owning up to his terrible decisions, even if he hadn't actually done anything wrong. He had time to get to know you, to know the family that you had been brought up alongside. And he was still sorry for causing you turmoil that was never going to happen.
"I will never force you to stay by my side, nor make you forgive me for my own intentional actions. I will still love you in the future as strongly as I love you now, but... I will accept whatever choice you make, no matter how much it will hurt me. Whether it be a reprimanding, or a severe beating, or even abandonment, I will not pursue you to change your mind just because I want you to."
You stare up at the Shinjin who has refused to step inside the capsule house despite how bad the storm from before was getting. His head was bowed down towards you as he stood in his usual fashion of having his hands behind his back, but he refused to show any actual emotion that might persuade your decision. He was letting you show him, to tell him what you truthfully wanted, in this relationship. Not only as a lover, but as a best friend, and as a being that was much higher than himself.
Zamasu was truly pure hearted, that would never change.
You could only shake your head slowly, before you're walking up to him and gently cupping his face between your hands. But, he still refused to actually open his eyes to look at you.
"Zamasu... I want you to come inside, and enjoy dinner with me."
This makes the Kai look up in shock at you in an instant, with a bit of confusion as well, and he almost refuses to do so out of respect for you until you speak up again.
"I'm not going to think any different of you because of what was a probability. All of your memories of that timeline, of my own memories even, they mean nothing because of how we are now. You changed for me, you gave this world a chance to change your opinion, and because of those little changes, we're here together.
We're not going around and destroying lives that are already here, we're creating new life together for ourselves. If this life had mirrored my other one, I'd be sleeping under a rock and missing out on the wonders life offered due to my own stubborn selfishness. I would have never met you until after that pin in the timeline occurred. Hell, it's still a possibility that in another timeline, I never woke up. Or even worse, we could have killed each other for a trivial reason because we didn't know each other. Everything that's happening, or hasn't happened, or will happen, it's all just possibilities and probabilities that are made by the decisions we take."
You gently caress your thumbs over Zamasu's cheeks, giving him a soft smile before you continue with your speech.
"And in this possibility, this probability, I love you more than anything. I love making you smile and laugh, I love your little quirks when you're upset or relaxed, I love you as a whole and I will never take you for granted. To see you shine so brightly, that's something that I'll always want to be able to witness, even if it isn't me that helps you to do that."
You gently remove one hand from his now tinted cheeks, placing it over his heart with a caring smile. "I want nothing more for us to stay in sync, even when we get into fights or anything else. I can't imagine my life having been this way had I not met you. And..."
Using your other hand, you gently grab one of his, and slowly place it right over your stomach. "And further down the line... Having a family of our own in the future... It won't be the worst thing to happen to take care of our own little tykes."
You lift your gaze back up to meet his eyes, only to see that he's letting his tears flow freely as he stares at you.
He didn't know what to say, being silenced by shockwaves of emotion. Slowly, he covers your hand that's on his chest, before gently squeezing it. His tears are flowing stronger now to the point that he couldn't stop them even if he wanted to, his vulnerability raw and in the open.
You let him pull you in close, as the hand he's resting on your stomach moves around and rests on your lower back instead. You let him rest his forehead against yours, cupping his cheek warmly.
For a moment you're both just standing out in the open and holding each other, but the storm makes itself known as it thunders roughly.
"Now, will you come inside with me?" You ask softly as you lightly peck his lips, before smiling. "Besides, you still have to uphold the other end of your deal and make lunch for us both."
Zamasu gives a soft nod while still holding you, allowing you to lead him back into the house and out of the danger of the storm.
You both get cleaned up first, and you definitely didn't mind the extra time of holding Zamasu in your arms until he was calmed down, his dyed mohawk back to being its natural white color after the shower you shared with him.
*****
The storm had calmed down after some long hours, it being well into the night before some of the sky cleared up.
Zamasu was watching you sleep, running his hand up and down your back slowly as you were nestled up against him with your head on his chest. He had thought deeply about your words to him, and tilted his head back to stare up at the ceiling instead so that he'd have more control of the tears threatening to spill out again.
He didn't deserve such a level of trust and love, especially from you. Yet here you were, a literal godsend, helping him stay on the right path. Helping him to look forward to the future in a way that he never would have considered.
"It won't be the worst thing to happen to take care of our own little tykes."
His eyes widened a bit as he realized what you had mentioned earlier. You didn't say just a single child, you hinted at multiple. He looked back down at your sleeping frame quickly, doing his best not to wake you. It was just a probability, not actually a fact...
You couldn't be pregnant though, right?
