I woke to loud cries. My body ached like never before. The screams poured around me. I forced one eye open, the other wasn't willing to do so. I peered around.
"I'm telling you, he isn't like that!" Ammedidon yelled.
"I've watched his murderous rampage! I was forced to help him!" Wynlin was arguing with the prince.
"Shea, believe me. I will stake my life to his!" Ammedidon sounded near tears. What was happening?
"Don't try to rise. Your badly injured." The voice was soft by my head. I tilted it back to catch a look of green eyes. Cordgi.
"Love." I whispered. He bent over me. His kiss was as sweet as nectar from the gods.
"I love you as well. Even if you are selfish doing this." He waved to my healing body.
"How?" I asked. Unsure how I managed to survive.
"Well, Attroxia was able to cushion your fall somewhat. Yakanaw withdrew your soul before your body broke. Then..." He looked away.
"Cordgi?" I tried to lift my hand to touch his face. My head was in his lap. I saw the tears in his eyes.
"We all felt it, Zyn. We felt your death. All of us. There was nothing we could do to stop a rampaging polar bear." He whispered.
"The dragons..." He swiped at his tears as he caught my hand.
"It was as if they all went crazy. The horde that appeared in the sky... it was a miracle that they didn't kill those on their side." He looked back to me.
"Zelzada is strong. She managed to pull them together somehow. But" he turned to look toward the tent flap.
"Only a handful of the kings army lives. The rest, well there weren't enough parts left to even bury. Zia took the hellfire squad out there to burn the battle field. I doubt if anything will grow there again." He muttered.
"YOU'RE JUST A CHILD!" Wynlin never yelled like that.
"I need to..." I groaned as I tried to sit up.
"Yes. You are probably very stiff. It's been four days." Gently Cordgi moved to help me.
A silent shadow shifted in the corner of the tent. I glanced that way. Neffy emerged from the darkness to assist. I watched as Snow came from another corner. Were they here to guard me, or watch over Cordgi? I wasn't sure. My leg nearly buckled. Neffy caught me.
His strong arm slipped around my waist. I went to thank him. His face was turned from me. He wouldn't look at me. His mind was closed. I sighed. I wasn't going to break into it. He was assisting me in walking, the bare minimum he could do. Cordgi opened the flap. There were gasps as I hobbled outside.
"You were told to keep him in there." A stern voice scolded.
All my concentration had been on moving my body. Now I lifted my head up. The dragons and riders were gathered around a small clearing. Wynlin stood to one side Averlien next to him.. Behind them sat Greyson, one arm bandaged from elbow to wrist. My father sat in the other seat, fresh cuts slashed his face.
Facing Wynlin was Ammedidon. Valkyrie stood just behind him. The man at his side was holding himself up on a split tree branch. His strong hard body slumped in pain. His dragon was on his knees, cuffs held his hands behind his back, a leather muzzle over his face. I glared at this.
"Since when do we treat dragons worse than humans?" I snarled.
"He did try to bite us." Tanwen moved out from behind my fathers. She came to my free side.
