The feast was grand indeed for such a sort set up time. Merkai came up to me with a drink in his hand while the Devonians were setting everything up. Scott and Parrien were parading each other around their circle of friends. My dear cousin seemed to be keeping his bride to be from me as she kept stealing glances back toward me.

"You're just as I recall." Merkai said. I pulled my gaze from the royal duo.

"Am I? A scared child?" I smirked. His face remained impassive.

"A scared child who is searching to find the path his feet need to land upon." He offered me.

I turned away, raising my own drink. How did dragons see things far more easy than others? He wasn't even inside my head! I snorted as the bitter taste of the cold coffee hit my tongue.

"Allow me?" Merkai offered his glowing hand. I eyed the one bandaged to his chest.

"I'm sorry I hurt you." I offered.

"The child I knew, was filled with wonder. He had a zest for life." His hand cupped the side of my mug. Soon steam appeared above the dark brew.

"There was always an adventure in his mind. Mischief in his heart and a soul that wasn't burdened as the world lay open to him. That child was happy." He added quietly.

"Happiness dies when you find out the man who was suppose to give you life, ordered your death, shortly after your mother struggled to bring you into this world." My voice came out as a growl.

"Is that what turned you so cold?" Merkai asked. His cream colored eyes raising up to meet me.

"Cold?" I blinked down at him.

"Zyn, that child I spoke of. He would have opened his arms to us. He would have offered us his favorite toy, snack whatever he had. That child would have seen us as friends first." Merkai stated.

"That child didn't know war. He didn't know what it felt like to have your best friend fall into your arms seconds after their Nuare had been killed. He didn't understand what it meant to be strong, to defend those he loves with more than just his heart. I will die before I allow any to harm those I care for, ever again!"

Merkai sighed. "There is it." His smile flew out over his face as if he had struggling to hold it back. I glared down at him.

"That was the passion I was looking for. You may have grown into a butt ugly male, but I can still find my friend inside you!" He laughed.

"Who is calling the love of my life ugly? Have you seen yourself King?" Cordgi asked as his arm slipped around my waist.

Merkai drew his head back. He staggered back a step or two. I watched his theatrics with a small smile on my lips as I pulled Cordgi against me. I kissed his temple as he settled in against my chest.

"All these lovely ladies eyeing you like you're the best piece of meet on the market and you chose...." Merkai stops for a moment.

"Wait, I know you!" He gasped. His face paled under the light brown of his skin.

"You were one of the King's gifts." He said the word as if it were cursed.

"I was." Cordgi nodded. Merkai walked up to him.

"All jests aside..." He placed his hand on Cordgi's shoulder. "...I'm glad you got away, and found peace." His creamy colored eyes landed on me for only a second.

They darted past me as his mouth fell open. His eyes enlarged as his pupils dilated. I saw his fingers clutch harder onto Cordgi's shoulder.

"Uh, oh. Um Zyn, you may want to see what he is looking at?" Cordgi touched my chin to turn my face away from the King Dragon.
