There had been talks all week. The kitchen children, the orphaned children found in the town. The riffraff of kids that had once scurried around the capital, they all needed a place. Baram was going to rebuild the school, or a school, but that would take time. The lives of those living under his reign would be more in need of necessities. Their homes would be rebuilt, stores, farms, all would be done before the school.
So the debate had gone on. What to do with all the children? There were many to transport back to Devonia. How would we get them there? Travel by road? Who knew what bandits we might come across. The children had been traumatized enough, why force them to watch more fighting.
To fly them, it would take an army of dragons. Baram had glanced at me, at this point. I shrugged. I had an army. I could call upon more and he knew it. In the end, this is what was decided. To my great honor, many of the riders who fought with me, came to offer room upon their backs, along with their Nuare, of course.
The day came when we were getting ready to leave. We had to carry many supplies as well as ourselves and the children. The amount of dragons needed... the shifters shuffled about. I stood looking at everything. This was going to be an enormous effort!
The sky began to become dotted with dark clouds. I looked up to see them. Already I felt them. They were calling to me, in order to let me know they were coming. I smiled. We had our transports. Baram glanced at the growing darkness on the horizon. He looked back at me, an arched brow, to show his questioning mind.
"We will have everything we need. Neffy, Tanwen, Troxxie you want to go get some food for them?" I asked.
"I'll go along." Zia offered.
Yakanaw had just led her rider to my side. "As shall I, if you don't mind." She glanced towards me.
"No, that's fine." I offered.
Jawnna's hand laid lightly on my arm. It was both familiar, yet oddly strange at the same time. That's when I understood. I let out a soft sigh.
"You're not coming." I whispered.
"No." She grinned.
"As always, you can see into a person's heart." She smiled fondly, in the general direction of the King.
"You will make a great Queen." I told her.
"Bold of you to presume, I don't just intend to use her as my mistress." Baram walked up to us.
I laughed. "First, I am known to kill kings, second, I know you." I drew her hand over to his. Placing them together, I bowed over them.
"Take my blessing, not that you need it." I smirked. I could already feel the mind of the child growing within her.
"Bind us, before you leave." Baram asked.
"You wish to be wedded, before your coronation?" I asked.
"That can wait! It is just a formality for the people. This is for us. We both wish for it to me you." Baram insisted.
"Very well." I nodded.
"Gather round, all you lot, get over here! We have a wedding to attend!" Ash yelled out over the group.
I snorted. 'I could have done that far quieter.' I told him, before addressing every mind to come to me.
Once we had everyone gathered around. Yakanaw had moved to her Nuare's side as Tempest stood proudly next to her own. The hunting forestalled, for now. She beamed at me. I looked upon them. I had little of value, less of anything actually owned. But I wanted to give them something. Something to show just what the two of them meant to me.
