Death by fire

"Zyn?" Zelzada asked softly.

I spun around. It appeared they had barricaded the doors. I heard pounding, possibly fighting outside of the library. I growled. Now what? Couldn't I find a moment of peace!

"Why didn't you tell me we were under attack?" I yelled to the air around us.

"You, of all, needed the information I had to give you. You, child of the land, were the only soul who could put it all together. Fight well, Prince." Pearlescent spoke swiftly.

"What witch, Zyn?" Zelzada brought my attention back.

"Ammedidon is not a child of Vangah. Neither is the new crown prince!" I said moving to help them. The doors bowed from the efforts of the others trying to enter.

"There is an army out there!" Ammedidon cried.

"So is she..." I backed away from the door. My eyes going round.

"She still lives!" I gasped. "He still lives! Together they will stop at nothing to destroy us! They want mankind gone from this world!"

I could feel the King dragon. He fought to enter my mind. He was doing everything he could to get past a thousand dragons to find a way to control me! I laughed. Tossing my head back, I laughed. He didn't get it! Even now, centuries after his own hatching, he didn't get it.

"THERE IS NO PEACE FOR YOU KING! NO DRAGON WILL BOW TO YOU OR TURN ME OVER TO YOU! FIGHT ME AS AN EQUAL, OR I WILL SEND YOU TO THE NEITHER AS THE SCUM YOU ARE!" I bellowed.

The doors burst into flame. They were met by water. Neffy and Cordgi stood together just before the entry. I saw the man's head peer inside.

"You are little, I hear you taste good, with a little ketchup!" He snarled at me.

"Zenith still lives." I taunted. As I did, I ordered Neffy to pull Cordgi back.

Once the black dragon had his Nuare out of the way, I clicked the gland in my throat. Using my own ice magic, I protected my face. The earth shifted under the human looking dragon in the hall. I opened my mouth. Not to yell, not to use words, I met him in the best way I knew...fire.

It washed over his human body, burning the half of his face I could see. The earth under him caved in as he, along with what army was outside the doors, fell down, down, down into the tunnels. My mind had already connected to Klaughn to warn him of the intruders. I knew the king may find a way out. He could still fly, after all.

"Lets go!" I cried filling in the space with more earth.

We rushed from the library. Running to the stairs I saw Shea and Greyson with a band of shifters fighting. I leapt over the railing, my ice creating a slide for us to swoosh down into the group beyond the shifters. Our bodies collided with the others fighting. Zelzada came up with her sword in one hand, an anger like none I have witnessed before upon her brow. I laid a hand on her shoulder. Our minds linked.

Yes she was furious at this place, they took everything from her. They tried to weaken my greatest ally. I smirked as I realized.

"You didn't weaken her, witch, you only made us stronger." I called out.

I lifted my head to peer around the castle. She wasn't here, but she was watching. My hand dropped from Zelzada. The soul dragon was going to reap an army, and I just gave her my blessing. My other hand caught the young fire rider. His gaze met mine. Pain, confusion, it burned behind those eyes. He was too young to know how not to give into it.

"You are still a prince, Ammedidon, one who may still become king. Act like it. Act like the man who truly fathered you, the once great King of Devonia!" I hissed.
