A final farwell

There was a lot to still do. I took Baram to the edge of the cliff. The place where the castle once stood, was a pile of rubble. I sighed, looking up at it. There were tents set up a few dozen feet away.

"Before we leave, I should have Ash and Snow build you a new castle." I informed him.

"No! The castle will be the last thing I rebuild." He turned to look out over the town.

It was a smoldering pile of trash. Buildings were demolished, people still cried for those they couldn't find.

"The town needs to be my first priority. If I want a strong land, I have to think of the people, before myself." He demanded.

"What of your coronation?" I asked.

"There will be time for that, after you return." He looked at me.

"So, kicking me out already?" I asked.

"You're mind has been upon that land, since you took down the witch." Baram gazed of in the general direction.

"I doubt they would bring the school back, but maybe I could build a sister school to it. One where we could work together..." His mind had a million ideas running through it already.

"Yes. I want to go see my old home..." I whispered.

He touched my arm. "It will always be your home, Zyn." He turned away from me then.

I didn't watch him go. Attroxia came up to me. He didn't speak, but stood at my side. Together we watched the people milling about below us. I turned away after some time.

"Lets get to work." I stated.

In my head, I called them all. Ordering them to me, if they wished. I showed them what I had seen of the town. A place, I hadn't been before I came to destroy it. Wings flapped over my head. I rose up to meet them, the light of my dragon form, a beckon to them all.

Together we went to the town. We worked all day, cleaning away debris, finding bodies of the dead, or some still clinging to life. We got them out. Separating them as we cleared away the broken bits of the peoples lives. War, it was an ugly concept. You may feel righteous in the belief of change, but there had to be better ways.

I knew, for my own fight, this had been the only way to take out the evil in this land. Yet, I wasn't the one to pay the price of it. These people were. I would learn from their hardships. I would be better as I moved across this land. I vowed this, only to myself.

By nightfall the land was cleared in the upper regions. There still was a lot of work to be done in the lower towns. I went to see the Damarken's before the sun faded from the sky

I stood beside Papie, with Ammedidon as they sent their beloved Gamuck to the void. I said a silent prayer to Klaughn, as he was sent to the neither before me. There were others that had perished for my cause. Yet, Papie assured me, it was for them as well. I shook the hand of their Chieftain. A right round fellow.

I didn't know a word he spoke, but thankfully, Klaughn hadn't been the only one, who knew our tongue. Another came forward. Gashara, she was Klaughn's sister. She reminded me of my promise to seal the tunnels. To give them their land.

"Do you not want a better place? Somewhere above ground?" I asked.

"No. This is our home." She insisted. I knelt before her. Reaching out I touched her mind.

'If ever you need me to return, just call out to me.' I told her.

Standing I looked over them all. "From this day forward, I will assure that none of my kind will bother you. You are free to live here as you please." Papie hugged Ammedidon good bye.
