I followed behind Shea as he walked between Quinn and Greyson. Seeing them together like this had me chuckling. I curled my hand around Cordgi's thin but strong fingers. Dyami smirked over at me, his own eyes tearing away from the backs of the three before me. My life had started with them.

No matter what stage of life I was in, one or more times than I care to recall, all of them, had been there. I got hurt tending to a fire dragon, it was Greyson who pulled me out of the protective flock of dragons. I fell off of a dragon in flight, Shea patched me back together. I got bullied or beaten up at the school, Quinn came to my rescue. That was only the injuries...

The times I got in trouble were few, but they resonated within me now. The first time I got caught fighting back at the school. The kid was bigger than me, a royal fire knight. He had jumped me while I was returning some books to the library. It was between classes. He hadn't liked how his dragon had greeted me a few days prior. More importantly, he hadn't liked how I had ignored him to talk to the dragon.

Shea had come to find Po standing guard over me in Quinn's office. Greyson looked thunderous at his back. I had never seen the large bear of man look angry before. I couldn't tear my eyes from him, no matter how scared I was too see it. Quinn slipped around the pair. Only then did I realize, Greyson hadn't been mad at me. He wanted the royal fire knight's head on a silver platter. I chuckled at the memory now.

"You know, they did their best for you." Dyami muttered at my side.

"Tell me something..." I flicked my gaze to his face.

He gave me his patient smile as he nodded his head for me to go on. My eyes ran over his tanned weathered skin. He looked far older than he was. I knew he was somewhere between my age and Shea's, but not sure how old he actually was. I saw the tiny scar hidden in the bush of his eyebrow. He had small scars like this over his hands and other body parts as well. Why he didn't allow the magic of the bond to fully heal them, I wasn't sure.

"The day you came to the school..." I began.

Dyami turned his head away. He gazed out the windows we were passing as we had already entered the school. I watched as he drew in a deep breath. Releasing it, I heard it whistle slightly between his teeth.

"You didn't come, just because you were hurt, did you?" I asked.

"Are you asking for this last time, or..." He stopped as his troubled gaze flicked back to me.

"The first time." I confirmed. He chuckled.

"It wasn't my first time. Just the first time you remember me." He looked back to the window.

"Honestly, I came for two reasons, other than a place to heal up." He said.

After that he was quiet for a moment. All that was heard was our boot falls sticking the floor. We had slowed, widening the space between the other three and ourselves. He didn't answer for so long, I thought he might not.

"I wanted Shea's advise. See, I had already met Cordgi by then." Dyami offered.

He gave a sad smile to the boy between us. "I wanted to find a way to save him. Him and those like him. Shea was the only one I knew who maybe able to help me." He added.

Again silence fell between us. "The other reason, was to meet you Zyn." He whispered.

"Shea had written to me when he first took you in. I had avoided him, seeing him as a father wasn't something I could get behind. He sent me many letters over the years, telling me about you. This last one, he asked for me to visit, he was worried that you hadn't spoken much with your voice. It intrigued me enough to come see you." He smirked.
