Chapter 7

Kailah's POV

"When you see my face, hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell.” I sang to myself as I carefully strolled inside the forest ducking under numerous branches that were sticking out.

After the orientation, I wasn't able to hear a single word...damn stupid gray eyes! Yeah, so after the orientation Kim and I went back to our cabin and I decided to explore the camp site to clear my head. What with, stupid damn stormy eyes popping in and out anytime they liked. Ugh!

There really wasn't a path on the bushy ground so I carefully strode for a couple of minutes until I reached a clearing. When I saw the view before me, it took my breath away.

Wow. It’s like I just found the marked spot in a treasure map. Sweet!

I let my mesmerized eyes survey the entire place. There was a fairly small body of water situated in the middle of the grassy ground and the trees around the whole clearing made it look like they were fences guarding a very precious thing. The lushness of the green grass suddenly made me think of soft clouds. Honestly. It was like they were calling me, saying: ‘come, come, lie down.’

Maybe later because I've been dying to do something the moment I saw this baby.

I started sprinting towards the water, simultaneously removing my chucks and socks. I guess I'm just cool like that. Just as I was reaching the edge, I twisted my body around and did a back flip towards the water.

The sound of my body breaking the once calm surface of the water filled my ears. I could feel the rush of the water and it was surprisingly warm considering that it was already nearing night time.

I was enjoying the blissful feeling of the warm water on my back and the fair breeze around me when my mind decided to replay the events earlier. I know I still hated males with a passion aside from the ones in my family and I guess I’ll add prison convict too but not entirely though. But I wonder why I reacted that way the moment my eyes met those beautiful, gray, stormy ones.

The second that thought popped in my head, my sense of balance swiftly decided to leave me sending me sinking down the water. I flailed around for a couple of seconds until I got back to floating again. I sputtered out some water and hit the surface with my palms for a number of times until I felt some of the frustration leave me. I shrieked out, annoyed at my stupid head.

“Stop thinking about it, Kailah. Didn’t you come here to actually CLEAR your head, not jumble it up some more?!” I said to myself, grumbling.

When I finally did clear my head, I returned back to swimming around, floating on my back and admiring the clear night skies littered with stars. You can’t honestly say you’ve had the privilege of seeing this in the city. The night skies there tend to be dull because of the bright lights and industrial fumes always get in the way. I guess I’ll add the view and the fresh air as another reason I was looking forward to this summer.

Thinking about how dark it had gotten already, I started to emerge from the water. Just as I began to heave myself out, the sound of rustling leaves, snapping of twigs and the crunching of dried leaves rang in the air. My heart beat quickened then and it was so loud that I feared that whoever that person was heard it drumming impossibly fast in my chest.

Okay, Kailah. Don’t think about jumping to conclusions about an axe murderer suddenly jumping out and pouncing on you. You’ve just been watching too many suspense movies lately.

Finally managing to settle my heart down for a bit, I hesitantly raised my gaze to where the sound came from. The first thing I saw was a pair of gray, stormy eyes. They looked at my eyes so intently that I almost looked past the large fury snout that came along with them. The glint of the large razor-like teeth snapped me out of the daze that clouded my mind instantly making me release a very loud gasp through my mouth.
