Chapter 9

Kailah's POV

I woke up at around 4:30 in the morning with the sun barely peeking out through the window and Kim was still passed out. I'm an early bird and planned on catching my worms. Not the literal kind.

I changed into a plain yellow tee, gray sweatpants and running shoes after brushing my teeth for a good two mimutes. You never know when an unsuspecting victim might smell your morning breath. That's some nasty stuff. I know; I lived with my brother for eighteen years until he moved out.

Tying off my hair in a ponytail, I rummaged for my iPod in the closet and plugged in my ear phones, playing 'Dirty Little Secret by The All-American Rejects'.

Deciding against leaving a note for Kim since she knew I always did my morning jog, I opened the door and stepped out of our room. I was immediately greeted by the cool morning breeze fanning my face.

"Good morning, country side." I whispered to myself, carefully closing the door.

Is it weird that I'm a serene person when it's early in the morning? There's just something amazing about being one of the few who are awake at this time of day.

I inhaled the fresh air for a few seconds, stretched for a bit and started traveling down the stairs. I was busy smiling to myself and looking at the steps when I bumped into a hard surface.

I couldn't help the curse that went off my mouth at the impact.

I hurriedly pulled my earphones and looked away from the ground. What I saw oddly didn't make me scowl. A startled-looking guy was looking at me but not in a way that would earn him a smack to his face.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bump into you! It's just that I wasn't looking. I hope I didn't hurt you." I let my eyes scan his form, looking for any sort of damage. I knew that it was least likely but better to be sure.

"It's okay, I shouldn't have stood here. I'm at fault too since I was spacing out and no, I'm fine. No bruises or anything like that."

His voice caught me off guard. If I closed my eyes, I swear it could have been my brother talking.

I smiled up at him, inwardly shocked at my attitude. We all know what I thought about males in general.

We were almost at the same height, but if you looked closely,he was slightly taller, maybe an inch or two. He had dirty blonde hair that almost covered his spectacled eyes. His brown eyes were staring at my own but would look somewhere else every few seconds.

I found that I actually felt comfortable with him. I wonder why.

I noticed that he was slightly blushing. Aww, how cute. Why was he blushing anywa-

"Oh God! I'm so sorry for staring! I didn't mean to!" I profusely apologized, looking up at him even though I was sure I was blushing.

Way to be a hypocrite Kailah! You got seriously mad because someone was staring at you  yesterday but you go and do it to someone else. Way to go.

He fortunately just laughed it off. If only I could have done that yesterday.

"I'm Garet," he introduced, after awkwardly coughing off his blush. Adorable.

Wait, Garet? It sounded familiar. I'm sure I've heard it just recently.

Oh! He's the poor guy those girls were bitching about yesterday. How mean. What's their problem? He was such a little angel!

Shaking off my thoughts, "Hi Garet," I smiled, offering my hand for a shake. "Kailah, but you can call me Kay."

We shook hands for a moment, both of us grinning from ear to ear. I can't help but imagine a strong and long friendship with Garet, not only because of how he impeccably sounds like my brother but also because I feel like we'll get along just fine.
