Chapter 20
Kailah's POV
We went back to the cafeteria seeing as my tummy was protesting. I kept on apologizing to Ian as we were walking through the woods until we reached our table. My mind kept on drifting to the time where our lips touched but it was an accident. He didn't mind it so I, too, would not but I can't but feel my lips still tingling from the contact. Damn.
We were the only ones there since breakfast was already finished long before Ian followed me.
"It's fine, Kailah. It doesn't 'hurt' anymore.", he stated awkwardly. He's been telling me every time I apologized, that 'it was fine'. I don't know if it's just me, but he seemed uncomfortable every time he said it. Maybe it was still hurting. I let out a sigh. I really shouldn't have kicked him.
I proceeded on eating my sandwich with my head bowed. I still felt guilty. It really is hard to be friends with males. They're so sensitive. I let out another sigh. "Hey", Ian spoke as he held my chin and turned it so that I was facing him. I still feel that tingly sensation but I've decided in 'my spot' earlier, that if I want to be his friend then I can't keep on getting flustered and embarrassed in front of him. It would be s awkwar- "You understand, Kailah?", he asked, looking flustered and embarrassed. OH SHIT! I didn't hear a word he said. Way to go Kailah. Ugh. Mind, think. "Uh, y-yeah. I u-understand.", I replied, stuttering. Damn. I can't lie even if the world depended on it! He chuckled. He obviously knew I was lying.
"We should finish eating, you still have high jump, right?", he said sounding amused. I tsked him. Why can't he just repeat what he said?! "Can you repeat what you said before the 'You understand, Kailah?'", I demanded. He choked on his soda splashing the drink on the table. Ew. "What the heck, Yanny!", I exclaimed. "I-i'm not s-saying it ag-gain.", he replied, blushing as he wiped his mouth with his sleeve. "Fine!", I harrumphed him crossing my arms over my chest.
"I'm going!", I announced as I stood up and made my way to the door. "Kay-Kay!", he called out. I turned around and saw him making the peace sign. I stuck my tongue out at him, turned around as I heard him laughing and walked out of the cafeteria.
High jump practice was fun. The new instructor, Ms. Monroe, even let me assist the other kids. It was cute how hard they were trying. I saw determination in their eyes and I could also see that they were having fun. This was what summer camp was all about. Aside from learning new things, you also have fun along the way. I couldn't help but smile at them. What a cute bunch. I really adore kids. When Ian mentioned triplets, I had to stop myself from gushing over what he said. I want to see them. Awwwe.
That thought made me remember Ian and my mood dampened. I still feel bad. I let out a sigh.
After the session I excused Kim out of arts 'n craft. They were painting ceramics. Cool. Anyway, so I dragged her to our room and let her sit on her bed. I followed suit, sitting beside her. "What's wrong?", she asked with a soft voice. It's like we were sisters. She already knew something was bothering me. I turned to her and told her what happened in the pond. She was quiet the whole time. After I was done telling the story including the one in the cafeteria, she patted my head. . .
. . . . and then burst out laughing. I could even see unshed tears in her eyes. "KIM!", I shrieked. I've been feeling bad since the accident and this is how she reacts?! "WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING?!", I added seeing as she wasn't done cackling like her life depended on it. I crossed my arms over my chest and waited for her to stop and explain. When her laughter died down, "So?", I asked, still annoyed. "Oh, Purple. This is the most fun I've had my life. I'm so glad you're my bestfriend.", she said as she hugged me. Awwwe. "Me too, Nurple. I'm glad that you're my bestfrie-", I hugged her back but stopped myself as I held her by the shoulders and glared at her. She was wearing an amused expression. "You, my friend, need to figure the male species on your own. Who told you to skip Sex Ed. anyway.", she stated, trying to stop herself from laughing. What is she talking about? Ugh! Stupid bestfriend.
I looked at her and saw that she was getting beet red. I let out a sigh. "Fine, let it out. No one's stopping you", I said snippily. And she did. She laughed, so hard that she fell on the floor, but that didn't end her laughter. I should've let her sit on my bed. The one above. I sighed. I seem to be sighing a lot these days. Sigh. See?
Males, huh? Who knew that they could be so complicated?
