Chapter 5
Ian's POV
When we arrived at the camp, we were told to immediately go to our rooms to unpack and meet up at the gym for the orientation.
I got acquainted with some of the guys during the bus ride. Some were cool, some rude and obnoxious and some just didn’t give a damn about anything, sitting in their own corners, earphones stuck in their ears. The typical teenagers and preteens.
I sat with this guy named Garet. He looked like those kids at my school who'd never be seen talking to our group but I didn’t mind talking to him.
Despite our differences in clothing where he chose to wear a baggy checkered button up, khaki pants that you could've mistaken as his dad's and a pair of shiny leather shoes. Let's not forget the black framed specs which completed the nerdy look. But don't get me wrong, he was not the typical skinny and pale nerds some people stereotyped them to be. He was tall and looked like he played a sport but I was still taller with my 6'1" height.
We chatted and I found out that he's the same age as I am, 17. We actually had a lot in common. He also had little brothers; he plays basketball, and let's not forget straight A's. Yeah, didn't expect that huh?
I found my room and was busy unpacking my stuff. And guess what, I'm bunking with Garet. Since it was a double deck, I chose the one on top.
"Are you done unpacking, Gavign?" Garet inquired. Yeah, he chose to call me Gavign. He insisted, even. He said something about both our names starting with G and that it was cool. Did I mention he was also funny? But I found that I didn’t mind so I let him.
"I'm done. Let's go." I answered as I hauled out the last piece of clothing I had in the double-door closet Garet and I shared.
We walked out of our room and started heading towards the court where a crowd stood. While making our way towards the others, I was able to really look at the camp site. It was very refreshing. There were a lot of big lush trees surrounding the site.
The log cabins where we stayed at lined up to my right, along with a large log house I guessed was for the adults with another fairly large cabin decorated with a set of large kitchen utensil. A huge field separated the buildings from the covered court where kids and teens along with the facilitators started to fill up.
"Dude, every single girl, no pun intended, is staring at you. You've got it good huh?" Garet mused stopping me from scoping out the entire place. I looked at him, then at the female population staring at me.
I let out a sigh. "And here I thought this summer would be different." I said under my breath. Just my luck.
"Did you say something?" Garet asked oblivious to my dilemma.
"Nope, nothing dude. Let's just head over inside. I think they're about to start." I stated, shaking my head dejectedly.
"What about them?" He asked, pointing to the girls gawking at my direction. I'm not egotistic okay, I'm just stating what I see.
I waved at them. What? It's common courtesy to acknowledge someone's presence when their focus is directed towards you. The second I realized what I stupidly did, I regretted it. They started squealing like those annoying girls at my school. Ugh! I should have known.
Where's peace and quiet when you need them?
Hearing a quiet snicker beside me, I turned my head and saw a very amused Garet. I shot him a pointed look. "Dude, it's not funny. It's annoying!" His eyes seemed to widen at my words. "Y-you think they're annoying?" He looked at me like he just saw me drown a live fish...in boiling water.
