Cardiac Arrest (Teddy)

i've had this idea for ages but it doesn't really have a plot so i hope you enjoy my mindless writing <3

Teddy's POV
I'm sitting in the waiting room, waiting for my girlfriend, Y/n. She's a surgical resident here and we've been keeping our relationship secret for a little while. Arizona walks over to where Im sitting. 'Hi! Who are you waiting for?' She says in her usual upbeat voice even though it's 2 in the morning. 'Er, nobody.' I lie. Nobody knows that I'm bisexual, and I'm not ready to tell them yet. 'Ooh, is this the mystery man? When do we get to meet him?' She asks. I think about my answer for a minute.

'Soon.' I settle on.

'Is he really that great that you have to wait for him? Why can't he wait for you?' Arizona continues. 'Is there a reason? Is he like, really good in bed?' I'm hesitant to respond. 'Oh yeah, the best.' I say sarcastically. We haven't actually had sex yet. The last time I slept with a woman, she died in a terrorist attack the next morning. No matter how many years it's been, she'll always be the love of my life. 'Okay, well I'm going to go home, goodnight! Enjoy loverboy!' I wave to Arizona as she leaves the building.

'Hey! Sorry I took so long, I got blood all over and had to shower.' Y/n sits down next to me. 'That's okay. I got in a great chat to Arizona about you.' I look to see if anyones around, then place my hand on hers. 'What'd you say?' She turns to face me, smiling warmly. Even if I had just lost a patient, her smile is so contagious I just have to copy it. 'Just how good you are in bed, and how you're a man.' She sits up. 'I am? How did I not see this coming?' I chuckle at her response. 'You ready to go?' She nods and we start walking towards the car.

Y/n's POV

We end up sneaking through the back of my house, seeing as I live with Meredith and the others.

We make it safely into my bedroom and are lying on my bed when Lexie knocks at the door.

'I miss Mark.' She says as I open the door. Teddy's hiding underneath my bed. 'Okay, so get him back.' I go to close the door when she stops me. 'How? Do I just tell him? I mean, I broke up with him because of a daughter he didn't even know about.' I put my hands on her shoulders. 'Lexie, go tell him you love him. Don't miss out because you're worried what he'll think of you. Go!' She nods and runs off to the attic. I close the door and lock it.

'You can come out.' Teddy climbs out from under my bed, covered in dust and clothes I wasn't bothered to wash. I laugh at the sight and pull her on to the bed. 'Why can't we tell them yet? I hate hiding like this.' She frowns and blows dust off of her shirt. 'Lexie already knows, I just wanted to hide you for fun. Kidding!' I add when her expressions changes. 'Look, we will tell them soon. I promise.' I peck her lips quickly to show her I mean it. 'I just wish Arizona could know.' She says. 'If we are both on a peds case someday, then we can tell her.' I vow. 'Oh great so when a baby goes into cardiac arrest, then we can lighten the mood and reveal our relationship.' I tilt my head. 'It doesn't sound so great, does it?' She turns around to face the wall. 'Look, you have your rules and I have mine.' I tell her. 'What's my rule?' Teddy asks. 'No sex! I completely respect it, by the way. I'm ready when you are.' I remind her. ' I have that rule in place because the last woman I had sex with died in 9/11.' I clap my hands over my mouth. 'Oh my god I'm so sorry. I'm a terrible human being.' She laughs. 'No, you didn't know. And I'm happy to do other things, just not sex yet.' I pull her into me for a hug. 'Of course.' Theres a silence and we both fall asleep.

We wake up at 10 AM to sneak out before anyone sees us. I throw some clothes on and tiptoe around the kitchen to grab us breakfast that we eat in the parking lot of the hospital.

I hand Teddy her tub of french toast slathered in maple syrup. 'April made it last night.' We both dig in, after not having had a proper meal for over 15 hours, french toast is a good idea. 'This is incredible. Really, I should hire Kepner to cook for me.' I smile at the comment. Although I wouldn't have thought for it to matter, her opinions on my roommates really do make me care about her the tiniest bit more each time.

While we're eating I point out an ambulance pulling into the loading dock. We both look at each other before clambering out of the car towards the paramedics.

'What do you have for me?' Teddy's the first to be there when the doors open. '7 month old baby, unresponsive to verbal and physical examination after a car wreck.' As it pieces together in my mind, it clicks at the same time for Teddy. 'This baby is in cardiac arrest.' We pull the gurney into the ER. 'Page Robbins!'

While all the other residents are still at home, I've already managed to put 3 good outcomes on the board, do 2 sutures and I'm assisting on a case of cardiac arrest in an infant. The looks on their faces when they walk into the hospital and see me running around after patients is priceless, and I would do anything to see it again. 'Hey. You okay? The baby's doing alright now.' Teddy taps my shoulder. 'Yeah, I'm good. How are we going to tell Arizona?' She looks down at her feet and smiles. 'We could just do it.' She suggests. 'What do you mean?' I ask. 'Just kiss or something in front of her and walk away.' I giggle at the idea. 'You're evil!' She cocks her head. 'I prefer mischievous.' I smile and watch her walk away.

I'm in surgery with Teddy removing scar tissue from a woman's aorta when she brings Arizona up again. 'So when you see me in the break room with her later, just walk in and sit down with me and then before she can ask any questions, leave.' I begin to laugh. 'Gosh, this poor woman! She's going to be so confused.' Teddy looks up at me. 'I know, that's why I want to do it.' I take a second to look at her. There's an excitement in her eyes, and I can't tell if it's from her plan to mess with Arizona, the surgery we're working on, or me. She's wanted to tell people for a while. She's proud she was able to get me to go out with her, and she wanted people to know. I'm the one who wanted to wait. Just until we knew it was serious. And even thought it's only been a few weeks, I know now that it's completely serious. I want nothing more than to tell everyone that Teddy Altman is my girlfriend and that she's one of the best things I've ever stumbled across in my life. 'Are you alright?' She snaps me out of my thoughts. 'Yeah. I'm alright. And we are definitely doing that.'

After the surgery I'm walking over to the attendings lounge where Teddy said she's going to be when I bump into Teddy herself along the way. 'You ready?' I ask her. 'Of course.' We walk in together and sit down on the couch. 'Hi! Wait a minute, you're not supposed to be here.' Arizona tells me. 'Leave her, she's with me.' Teddy pulls me closer to her on the couch. 'Okay.' Arizona shrugs and begins making a coffee. Teddy puts her arm around me slowly, but Arizona still doesn't notice. She sits down with her cup and sighs. After a few minutes of small talk, I get paged by Dr. Hunt on something in the ER. 'Crap, I gotta go. Bye!' I kiss Teddy and walk out while I can hear Arizona audibly process what happened.

After work I see Teddy coming down the stairs and run over to grab her. 'How's Robbins? Is she still processing?' I put my hand in hers as we walk. 'Definitely. She sat still with her jaw practically on the ground for a good few minutes.' I giggle. We really did a number on her. 'I've been thinking and... I think I'm ready. For more than just kissing and cuddling.' Teddy says. 'Really? Are you sure? I don't want to pressure you into anything.' She nods. 'I'm sure. This is something I want, Y/n.' We climb into her car. 'Okay.' I kiss her and she starts driving to Meredith's house.'

We go through the front door for the first time and see Mer and Lexie standing there. 'What are you doing here?' Lexie asks Teddy. 'Jesus, relax! We're going up to my room to- Study.' I lie. 'Yeah, sure.' We begin climbing the stairs when Meredith yells back at us 'Don't do anything I wouldn't do!' I roll my eyes at her remark and lock the door to my room.
