'I have a lot of flaws, Mark. I'm lazy, I procrastinate, I smoke when I'm stressed or when I know I'm in trouble.' Arizona argues when Mark calls her perfect.

'You what?' I say, making her realise that her very new girlfriend is right behind her and eavesdropping on everything she's saying.

'I smoke when I'm stressed?' She mumbles sheepishly.

'Absolutely not. You're a pediatric surgeon! You out of all people should know that smoking kills. You're quitting, starting now.' I order.

'Okay, but if I'm quitting, you are too. No more ice cream for one month. If I break, then you get junk food.' Arizona haggles, knowing ice cream is my stress food.

'Fine, challenge accepted.' I shake her hand.

Day 1

'How is it so far?' I ask, reading the newspaper on the couch. Arizona got rid of all her cigarettes last night and today is her first day without them. 'It's fine so far. No cravings or anything.' She shrugs, sitting down next to me.

'Great! Well we have that conjoined twins surgery today, remember?' I remind her. 'Damn it! Why did I agree to this?' She frowns, making me laugh. 'Good luck.' I kiss her cheek.

Half an hour before the surgery I see her bargaining with a teenager inside his room. 'Dr. Robbins, could I speak with you for a minute?' I ask politely. Her eyes go wide with alarm as she follows me out of his room.

'What was that? Did you seriously ask that kid for a cigarette?' I demand. 'Maybe, but this is a huge surgery! I needed one.' She defends herself shamefully.

'Snap out of it. Do the surgery and tell me how it feels afterwards to know that you did it without nicotine.' She nods and I let her go to prep for the surgery.

18 hours later Arizona runs towards me at full speed, launching into my arms. 'How was it?' I ask, already knowing the answer. 'It was awesome! They both came out great, and I don't feel any cravings!' She grins from ear to ear.

'I'm so proud of you, really. Now let's go home and you can pick a movie.' I say, dragging her out to the car.

Day 15

'Arizona? Are you in there?' I knock on the door of our bathroom. 'Ye-No!' She shouts, coughing obnoxiously. 'Open the door.' I tell her. 'No!' She yells. 'Open the door or I'll break it down.' I say, preparing to throw myself against the door. 'Fine.' She unlocks the door and I see an ashtray on the counter.

'You're so close! Have you smoked it yet?' I ask, taking the pack out of her hand. 'No, but I lit one.' She admits and hands it to me. I put it out and drop it in the bin. 'We're halfway there, Arizona. Two weeks, okay? If you need it that badly I'll get nicotine gum.' I tell her. 'Thank you.' She wraps her arms around me.

Day 30

'Last day! How are you feeling?' Arizona asks in the morning. 'Good, I get to eat ice cream tonight. How about you?' She's grinning so I'm guessing the nicotine gum is working. 'Good! I'm feeling a lot better then when we started.'

We stay up until midnight waiting, and when it finally hits I open a pint of ice cream and we dig in. 'I'm proud of you.' I say while shoveling the ice cream into my face. 'Me too.' Arizonas response is muffled, but I still understand.

3 months later

Arizona hasn't smoked since before we quit, but today there was a huge blackout and all the babies ventilators are slowly dying, so I thought I would check on her.

'Hey, you okay?' I open the door to the on call room. 'Yeah I'm fine.' She says anxiously. 'Are you smoking?' I ask cautiously. 'No! I'll be out in a minute, sorry.' She answers so I leave her.

The blackout is fixed and all the ventilators are back up and running when I check with Arizona again. 'Are you sure you're okay? I can go get some gum if you need it.' I tell her. 'I'm not smoking, I promise.' She stays but she still seems nervous. I ignore it and we go home.

Three days later I catch her smoking in our bedroom. 'Arizona! What is going on with you? You've been acting weird since the blackout, and now I catch you smoking. Is everything okay?' I ask, sitting on the bed next to her and taking the cigarette out of her hand.

'I slept with someone.' She says, making me drop the cigarette. My heart sinks as I ask her my next question. 'Who?'

'Dr. Boswell. Remember her? The night of the blackout, I had sex with her. I am so sorry, Y/n. I never meant to do it. I was just so stressed, and-'

'Come to me if you're stressed! Not some weird doctor you picked up off hotblondes.com! I have always been there for you. I helped you through everything. I cannot believe you would do this!' I yell so that I don't cry, but tears flood my eyes anyway.

'Y/n, please. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you! I'll do anything to make it up to you. Give me another chance. I'll never smoke again, I'll donate to homeless shelters, I'll read to deaf people.' She pleads.

'Read to deaf people? Do you have any idea how stupid you sound right now? I hate you, Arizona. I never want to see you again. I'm leaving, now.' I stand up and begin to pack a suitcase while Arizona begs me to stay.

'Goodbye, Robbins. Have a shitty life, please.' I tell her before walking out the door.

But she was too focused on me leaving to realise that a lit cigarette on the ground would send the apartment up in flames, and she would die in just a couple of minutes...

Maybe next time she'll think before she cheats...
