TRIGGER WARNINGS: drugs, addiction, mention of r@pe

I'm walking by the elevator with a chart when Amelia walks in. Amelia's my closest friend. We've known eachother since med school, and she hasn't been in work for twelve days. Addison was about to call the police on her. 'Amelia?' She looks up at the sound of her name. 'Good morning!' She responds happily and keeps walking. As she walks to get a snack many heads are pried from computers in shock.

I follow her into the kitchen, where I'm just in time to see Addison slap her. 'What the hell was that for?' Amelia demands, holding the side of her face. I walk over to Charlotte, my girlfriend. I place my hands on her shoulders while Cooper and Violet reprimand her. 'We called the police, and every hospital in L.A-' Pete interrupts to add 'And the morgue.' Amelia's eyes flicker over to me, and I tilt my head down to avoid eye contact. 'Why?' She asks. No one responds. 'Y/n, why?' I look up at her. Her arms are crossed and she's waiting for an answer. She's never been good at waiting, so I blurt it out. 'You've been missing for twelve days. Nobody's heard from you, Amelia.' Her mouth falls slightly agape before she quickly shuts it. 'What are you on?' Charlotte pipes up. 'What? What are you talking about?' All eyes move back and forth from Amelia and Charlotte. 'Are you high right now?' She stays silent.

'Okay, I slipped. I was going over the edge, and even Ryan was worried.' Amelia finally admits. Ryan's her boyfriend. 'He says there's partying and then there's the scary thing I was doing. He dragged me to loads of meetings, and Im so grateful. But I didn't know it had been twelve days. I can't imagine what you all must've thought. I'm sorry, for putting you through that I'm sorry. But I'm okay now, there's no need to worry.' Addison grabs her and pulls her in for a hug. 'I have to go to three meetings a day for as long as it takes, but I swear, I'll stay sober.' Addison releases her. 'Now, I have to catch up on a lot of work, so I'll see you later.' I only realise when she leaves the room that I've been holding my breath this whole time. 'She's lying.' Charlotte says. 'What? No. Shes okay, Char.' I tell her. 'That's what you think, because you haven't been an addict.' I feel her shoulders tense up. 'You'd be surprised at how adept an addict can be at hiding their addiction.' Jake nods. 'We have to do something.' Charlottes clinging on to the idea of Amelia relapsing, which makes me believe it a tiny bit more. 'If she's lying.' Violet adds. 'Charlotte, maybe because of your history, you want to assume the worst?' Cooper suggests. 'It's only because of my history that I know the secrets, the games, the lies. And I'm telling you, that girl is using!'

So we give in, and the next morning I'm helping scour Amelias office for drugs with Charlotte. 'Y/n, take these from me. Please.' I turn and see Charlottes arm stretched as far from body as possible with a bag of oxy. I quickly stuff it in my pocket. 'She's in the parking lot.' Sam informs us.

I stand in front of the elevator, waiting for the doors to open. When they do, Amelia smiles at me. For a minute I want to believe that it was planted and that she's alright. 'Hey, can we talk to you?' I block her from leaving the elevator. 'Who's we?' She asks. I let her into the waiting room where the rest of her friends are, along with Leni, who's described as a woman who 'has experience with interventions'. Apparently Sam just googled « intervention help » and her name showed up. 'Hi, I'm Leni.' She says calmly. 'Okay does she have a brain tumour, because that better be what's going on here.' Amelia turns to me angrily. 'Everyone here cares about you, Amelia. We're asking you to please listen to what we have to say.' I see the realisation hit Amelia as she stumbles back. 'I cant believe this. You got me an intervention?' She shouts. 'Amelia-' I begin but she walks past me. 'I have patients.' She calls. 'No, today's all about you. You don't have any patients.' Leni explains. 'Shut up, I know how an intervention works. You're just the party planner. One of you,' She waggles her finger at us. 'Is supposed to have the balls to say something to me.' Nobody speaks. 'Great intervention, I have been intervened upon. I'll see you tomorrow!' She gets back on the elevator, but Sheldon puts his arm in the door. 'You have a right to be upset.' Addison tells her. Amelia starts banging her hands on the wall. 'Amelia, get off the elevator or Ill fire you.' Addison demands. 'Too late, because I quit.' Pete walks over to where we're all standing. 'I'll call the police.' He says. 'And tell them what?' She scoffs. 'That you've been writing yourself prescriptions for drugs for personal use.' Charlotte replies. 'You don't know that.' Amelia bangs on the elevator wall again. 'Yeah, I do.' Amelia turns to face the wall for a second before coming back into the waiting room. 'I'll stay.' But she walks past the waiting group of people. 'I didn't say I'll talk. I have work.' She walks into her office.
