I hate Lexie Grey. She is one of the most annoying people I have ever met.

We met on the first day of our intern year. At first I thought she was nice, but soon I envied her. She was dating Dr. Sloan and her brother was Dr. Shepherd. She was friends with the residents and pretty soon she was picked for any cool surgery.

During the merger the rest of our group left and it was just me and her in our year. Eventually I ended up charting for weeks at a time without getting a single surgery. Lexie still tried to talk to me, but I had given up.

One day in particular I was hiding in a storage closet studying when Lexie came in. 'Dr. Grey.' I greeted her coldly, barely looking up from my books. 'Hey. Can I sit here for a minute? I need a break.' She says breathlessly. I nod, still highlighting words for a Whipple. She sits down next to me. 'Why are you studying Whipples? We do those all the time.' Lexie peers over my shoulder. 'No, you do. I barely get to do surgeries. Ive never done a Whipple.' I admit.

'Ill show you.' She says, standing up and getting a practice board. 'Look, heres the aorta, and here is where you cut. Slowly and until you reach the muscle...' She continues to guide me through the surgery and eventually the board is stitched up.

'Next Whipple I'm paged on goes to you, okay?' She offers. 'Thanks.' I nod. And that was it. She was paged a minute later and we didn't speak again for two weeks.

'Hey, Y/n!' She ran over to me in the pit. 'I have something for you!' She hands me her chart and I see that the man needs a Whipple. 'Really?' I look up. 'Of course! I promised you.' She urges. 'Yeah but I thought that was a half assed promise, you know? One you make and then never keep and lie and say you forgot about.' I ramble, flicking through the chart. 'I never break a promise, okay? Do you want to see your patient?' I nod overeagerly and she leads to me to his room.

After a very successful surgery, I go to find Lexie. 'Hey! Wanna go out for drinks? Ill pay!' I ask. 'Sure. Let me grab my coat.'

We go to Joes and get hugely drunk, although Im a lightweight so it doesn't take long. By the second drink Im dancing and saying things that could probably get me fired.

'And Altman? She loves me. She was flirting with me during that surgery. « Good job, L/n. » She so obviously wants to sleep with me!' I slur and Lexie laughs. 'Promise me,' I slide back into my seat. 'That we will die together when were 80 in a super cool shootout. Like in Die Hard!' I exclaim, spilling my drink. 'I promise.' Lexie says, listening to me the way you listen to a child. I give her a huge hug that probably nearly choked her.

The next morning I have a terrible hangover, and arrive to work on 30 minutes of sleep and a huge headache.

'How do you feel?' Lexie says and I groan. 'Too loud. We should keep it like... this small of noise.' I pinch my fingers together. 'Okay. Sorry.' She whispers and helps me walk in a straight line to the lounge.

'Hey, L/n. You did well yesterday. I want you on my service for the rest of the week.' Dr. Altman tells me while Im changing into my scrubs. 'Got it, be out in a minute!' I say to her. 'Totally in love with me.' I whisper to Lexie, who stifles a giggle.

'Hows Mark?' I ask during lunch. We're walking over to Meredith and Alex. 'Having a baby with Callie.' Lexie grumbles. 'Huh? When did that happen?' I say cluelessly. She smiles and we sit down.

After a few weeks everythings looking better for me. Im working with Dr. Altman a lot, doing more surgeries, and Ive moved in with Lexie and Meredith.

'I love him, Y/n. I still love Mark. And maybe I did want kids. I mean, Sofias adorable, and you can never have too many moms. Callie and Arizona and me, thats only 3.' Lexies ranting to me one night. 'You should tell him.' I say. 'No!' She yells. 'Hes dating Julia, and it would be really embarrassing for me if I told him I miss him.' I shake my head. 'Lexie, you need to tell him. Today. Go now.' She nods, trying to build up the confidence.

I see her the next morning with her eyes red and puffy. 'Not good?' I say, handing her a tissue. 'Nope. We have work, though, so I cant dwell on it. Tomorrow night, when were home from Boise and we can drink.' I smile at her plan and we get in the car.

Were going to Boise for a surgery today. Its me, Lexie, Meredith, Mark, Derek and Arizona. I get on the plane and sit in front of Lexie so that she cant see Mark. After a couple minutes, I get up to go to the bathroom, and suddenly Im whisked out of the plane.

I wake up to shrieking and clanging. Sitting up, I realise a tree branch has landed on my leg. My leg feels broken, and it looks just as bad. The clanging becomes so loud I can hardly bear it until I see where its coming from.

Lexies in front of me, lying underneath the wing of the plane.

'Lexie!' I shout, crawling towards her in unbearable pain. 'Are you okay?' I ask stupidly. 'Yeah, just lying here for fun.' She counters. 'Lexie, please.' I say. 'Im dying. My pelvis was crushed, and if you lift the wing Ill bleed out. Im not going home. So much for drinks tomorrow night.' She jokes.

'Is she okay?' Meredith asks, hobbling over using a cane to support herself. 'No.' I say. Marks right behind Meredith. He lies down immediately and starts talking to her.

'Lets fix your leg, okay?' Meredith says, using bandages from a first aid kit to reduce the bleeding. 'Not yet. We should- we should say goodbye to Lexie.'

It took two months before I was cleared for work. I met all the interns, but one in particular was my favourite; Jo Wilson.

I was chief resident, and studying for my boards, so I passed most surgeries on to her and told the attendings she would join them.

One day she begged me to go in for her. She hadnt studied the surgery and had no time to figure it out. It was a Whipple.

I taught her the same way Lexie had taught me, and to thank me she brought me out for drinks.

We moved in together last week and Im helping her study for the intern exams while she helps me with flashcards for the boards.
