It's 4AM and my shift has just started. I'm on McMistress' service today. That's the nickname the we have Dr. Montgomery because she's married to Derek. I'm holding a preemie named Leo. He's two days old and was born in an emergency C-section after a car crash. His fathers dead and his mothers unresponsive, so he's staying here until the social worker can find him a family.

'L/n, how's my preemie?' McMistress walks into the NICU. 'He's doing okay.' I shrug, pretending to check his vitals. 'Good.' She continues walking around the room, checking on the other babies.

'How are you?' She asks. 'Alright. Why?' I answer, walking to one of the babies in the room. The name on her cot says Rosie. 'I remember being an Intern. Constantly sleep deprived and snappy. I gave the nurses donuts to get good surgeries.' I roll my eyes, praying she doesn't see. 'Thanks for the tip.' I grimace.

'You're welcome.'

I check on a few other babies. 'So what do the interns think of me? I'm the new attending who "stole" Grey's boyfriend.' Dr. Montgomery walks over to me. 'They... They definitely had preconceived notions about you. I mean, you did show up unannounced and take Mers boyfriend.' I scowl. 'So you don't like me. Am I right?' She comes around behind me. 'I've picked sides, I guess.' I hesitate to say. 'So if I were to ask you out right now, what would you say?'

'What?' I say, a little too loudly, I realise, as Leo starts crying.

'Shh..' I coo, scooping the baby into my arms. 'You and me. Dinner. I know a great Italian place.' Dr. Montgomery continues.

'No.' I say. 'What?' She looks confused and I want to laugh. 'No. You are married - to my best friends boyfriend, might I add - and I don't want to go out with a married woman.' She smirks. 'We're getting a divorce, so that's not a problem.' I place Leo back in his cot.

'Still, I won't betray Meredith like that. It's mean, and she's just let me move in with her, and-' I'm cut off when Addisons lips are on mine.

I pull away after a few seconds, and my jaw drops. 'I'm always here if you change your mind.' She says, walking away.

Since then, I've tried to avoid Addison as much as possible. When I'm on her service I do my job and don't stray from the subject of surgery. I haven't let our hands so much as brush in the hallway.

But today was different. I was in the elevator with Izzie, going to coerce Bailey into giving birth, when we were paged a code black.

'What does that mean?' Izzie asks me. 'No clue. Dr. Montgomery, what's a code black?' I ask Addison as she gets in the elevator. Fear flashes across her eyes. 'Is this a drill?' She asks nervously. 'I don't know. Why?' She shakes her head. 'Just- Go to your locker rooms, okay? Now!' Izzie runs out of he elevator, but I stay. 'Addison, what does it mean?' I ask seriously. She takes a deep breath before answering me. 'There's a bomb in the hospital.'

'Dr. Bailey, please. It's not doing anyone any good if you keep the baby in!' I plead, wanting to get this over with as soon as possible. When she has the baby, I can leave, and the bomb squad can do it's job. 'No! Not without Tucker. I can't do it!' She refuses. 'Okay, I'll be back in a few minutes then.' I go outside to take a breath.

Addisons outside sitting on a stretcher, her knees to her chest. 'Hi. No luck?' She asks as I pull myself up to sit next to her. 'Nope. Not without her husband.' I sigh. 'Her husband is in surgery!' I place my hand on Addisons. 'It's okay. We can figure this out.' I try, but it makes her madder. 'No, we can't Y/n! We might all blow up before Bailey has her baby!' She yells.

'But we're not going to let that happen, are we?' I nudge her. 'Because you are a double board certified Neonatal surgeon. Only 8 people in the world can do what you do, so do it! Force a baby out of a pregnant woman before she blows up.' Addison laughs, and I smile as her eyes light up. 'Okay, let's force a baby out.' She says.

'Okay, Bailey. We are having this baby.' I say, climbing behind her so her head can rest on my shoulder. 'Ready?' Addison asks. I nod while Bailey groans, I'm assuming in the affirmative, because she doesn't refuse when Addison tells her to push.

She pushes on and off for about twenty minutes before her baby boy is out. I clean him off and hand him to Bailey. 'We will give you a minute, but he needs to go up to the NICU as soon as possible.' Addison tells her. Bailey nods, although I don't think she really heard anything.

'You did it!' I exclaim. 'I did!' Addison returns excitedly. I hug her tightly, not wanting to let go.

Eventually I pull away, and neither of us speak for a minute. 'Okay, bring Tuck up to the NICU, and I need to find out where Derek is.' I must look as disappointed as I feel, because she adds 'We may be getting a divorce, but I still care about him.' I smile and head back into Bailey.

'Meredith! Are you okay? You held a bomb, didn't you?' Izzie asks, overhyped. Meredith nods, but she's covered in rubble and blood, so we bring her into the showers and help her wash off.

When she's cleaned up, I leave the locker rooms and see Addison waiting for me. 'How's Meredith? Is she okay?' She asks. 'She's a bit shaken, but she's okay. How's Derek?' Addison shakes her head. 'He did brain surgery next to the OR with the bomb.' I gasp. 'What? How did he manage that?' Addison puts her hand in mine. 'I'll tell you at that Italian place?' She suggests. 'Alright, but you're driving.' She smiles and kisses me before we leave.
