'God, what time is it?' Arizona groans. It's 5 in the morning, and I'll be late for work if she doesn't hurry up and get dressed. Arizonas my girlfriend, and this is the first time she's stayed over at my apartment. I've stayed at her place once, but we never slept here because of my roommates, Callie and Cristina. 'It's 5, now get up!' The other two left an hour beforehand since Cristinas on Callies service, and they had a patient become emergent. They left a note on the kitchen counter. 'No.' Arizona puts the pillow over her face. 'Come on, I'll be late!' I glance around the room to try and find something to wake her up. 'So be late! You're on my service today, it doesn't matter.' I roll my eyes. 'What about Lisa?' Lisa's our patient with appendicitis. She's supposed to get surgery this morning. 'Stark can do it, now get back into bed.' She finally sits up and stretches her arms out, reaching for me. She looks around the room. 'God, it's really snowing out there, huh?' I whip my head around. 'What?' Out the window I can see at least 5 feet of snow piled onto the pavement. 'Arizona, we can't get out!' She stands up and pulls the blanket around her body while she walks over. 'We can walk.' She shrugs. 'You're short! You're like 5'5! You can't walk in that!' Her mouth falls open. 'I'm not that short.' She mumbles. 'I'm sorry.' I rub her arm. She's never been very confident in her height. 'We'll just have to call in sick.' I sigh. 'Okay, I'll call. You get more blankets and hoodies and stuff. The radiators broken, right?' I nod. 'Alright. I'll see if Mark has any food he's been hiding from us. He keeps a key in the plant.' I add at Arizonas confused expression.
I open the door to Marks apartment and shiver. He barely stays here anymore since he and Lexie started staying at Mer's. Rooting through the pantry, I'm able to find Earl Gray tea bags, vegan chocolate, and rice. Looking further back, I find a bag of beanboozled jelly beans. Along with that, I take his blankets and a couple of hoodies that I know he stole from me to annoy me.
'Find anything?' Arizona calls out when I close the door behind me. 'No food, he needs to go shopping.' I toss her one of my hoodies. A green one that I usually wear when watching sad movies and gorging on popcorn with extra butter. She slips it on and I smile. She looks good in it. 'Webber understands and said to stay safe.' I fall into the couch and turn on the tv. 'Cool. What do you wanna watch?' She snatches the remote out of my hand. 'No, we're doing something fun. I will not let you become a lazy couch potato. Do you have any board games?' I stand up. 'Callie has Jenga in her room, and Cristina has a couple jigsaws?' I suggest. 'Ooh, and I found these in Marks! We can play Beanboozled!' I toss the jelly beans at her. 'What's beanboozled?' She asks. I gasp in shock. 'You've never played! Sit down.' We sit down on the carpet.
'Okay, so you separate them into different colours, and there are two flavours for each colour. One good and one bad. You spin the wheel, and whichever colour you land on you have to eat. And, you have to chew it at least three times before swallowing.' I explain, sorting the jelly beans into different groups. Arizona spins the wheel first. 'Blue.' She looks at the blue beans, hesitant to pick one up. 'It's either toothpaste or berry blue. Try it!' She pops it in her mouth and chews. 'It's berry!' She throws her arms in the air in relief and I laugh. 'Okay, my turn. Brown.' I look down at the board. Canned Dog Food OR Chocolate Pudding. I take a bean and taste it. At first it's sweet and tangy, but it turns into a rotten, meaty disgusting mess. My face must turn sour, because Arizona laughs and points at me, hitting her knee. 'It's not good.' I squirm. 'Okay, okay. Orange.' I chuckle. 'That's the worst one! It's barf or peach.' She rolls her eyes. 'I doubt I'll get barf, so-' She immediately begins to shake her head at the taste of the jelly bean. 'It's barf.' She says muffled. I laugh as she swallows what I can only imagine as a horrid taste. 'Okay, I'm done with this. Jenga?' We clean up and put the game away.
Where beanboozled is a game of chance, Jenga is the perfect game for two surgeons to play. It can take seconds or hours depending on who your playing with. For us it takes hours. The base is just one brick, holding a giant tower. We ask eachother questions to pass the time. 'What movies do you like?' She asks me. 'I don't really watch movies. It's all surgeries.' She mutters something under her breath. 'What?' I ask. 'That's just because you're a resident. Just wait until you're an attending, you'll be sick of them.' She says. 'Oh come on! I bet if you're here later at some point a tape of a surgery will be put on.' She smirks. 'What movies do you like?' 'Spy movies. James Bond and Mission Impossible. That sort of thing. What specialty do you want?' She asks. 'Probably Trauma. Alex has Peds, Cristina has Cardio, and Mer has Neuro.' I pull out another piece from the middle and place it at the top. 'Karev? On Peds? He hates it!' I roll my eyes. 'That's what he wants you to think. You know, before you got here, there was this Jane Doe, pregnant. She was in a ferry crash and Alex found her unconscious at the scene. He was on her case for months, and they even had a thing.' Arizona begins to take a piece from the bottom of the tower. 'Then what?' She asks. 'She turned out to have multiple personalities or something.' She yanks the piece in shock, and the tower comes crumbling down. 'I win!' I jump up and kiss her. I pick up a brick from the fallen tower. 'I'd like to thank my mom,' Arizona pulls the brick out of my hand. 'So cocky.' She tsks and kisses me again.
Arizona ends up doing the puzzle while I make us dinner. 'How you doing?' I ask her. 'I'm nearly done, I just can't find out where a few pieces go.' She groans in frustration. I flip the steak in the pan. 'Harder than surgery?' She laughs. 'Definitely.' I plate the steaks with salad and chips and put it in front of her. 'Thank you.' I sit down next to her and help with the puzzle. While she's not looking, I take one of the pieces and hide it in my pocket.
Arizonas practically flipped the kitchen looking for the missing piece when I place it into the puzzle. 'I hid it.' I admit. 'Y/n!' She looks fuming so I distract her with secret ice cream from the freezer. She takes it reluctantly and we sit down on the couch, far apart because she's still mad at me. 'Now can we watch something?' I beg, wanting to show her my favourite movie of all time. 'Fine.' She waves her hand to tell me to press play and I put on Miss Congeniality. During the movie she scoots closer and closer to me until I have my arms wrapped around her.
As we put on the news Callie bursts through the door with Cristina being tugged along. 'How was the surgery?' I ask. 'It went great. I fixed her shattered femur easily. I'm a god.' She sits down with us and turns the volume up. Cristina mumbles something about tired and floats into her bedroom. Just then Mark and Lexie come in. 'That's your hoodie that I stole from you.' He points to Arizona. 'I know, doesn't she look great?' Arizona smiles at me and scrunches up her nose. 'You need to go grocery shopping.' She says to Mark. He rolls his eyes and sits down next to Callie, Lexie laying on his chest, exhausted. Callie and Mark fight over the remote, and eventually give it to Lexie, who puts on a surgical tape by Richard Webber in 1987. 'Told you.' I nudge Arizona, who scoots closer to me and pushes her head into my neck.
