I step in to the elevator on my way to Oceanside Wellness with a smile on my face. Addison Montgomery, whom I worked with in Seattle, has asked me to work with her for a six weeks on founding a new charity that helps pregnant teenagers get better healthcare.

When the elevator dings and the doors begin to open, I see Addison waiting for me. 'Y/n!' She says, hugging me. 'Hi! How is everything?' I ask, following her to her office. 'It's great! You'll love it here, we have a great staff and a fully stocked fridge.' Addison responds. She continues showing me around, but a blonde woman catches my eye, and I recognise her almost immediately. 'Charlie?' I stop dead in my tracks and the woman's head lifts up, revealing that I was right; it's Charlotte King.

'Y/n?' Charlie marches towards me. 'Hi! I didn't know you worked here?' I nearly forget Addisons standing next to me. 'Yeah. I moved here with- with Billy.' Charlotte hesitates, a flicker of sadness in her eye. 'You married him? Charlie, I'm so happy for you!' She shakes her head, telling me I got it wrong. 'We divorced, actually.' She corrects me. 'Oh, Im so sorry. I didn't know.' Finally, Addison pipes up. 'How do you know eachother?' She asks. 'We used to be apart of the same study group.' Charlotte lies, and I stifle a laugh.

'Okay...well you can catch up later, we have to start planning. Bye, Charlotte.' Addison drags me away. 'Bye Charlie!' I wave and giggle at the glare she gives me. 'Study group?' Addison questions. 'Shut up. We dated for a while, but we broke it off before college and I guess she married Billy. He was a football player.' I explain.

After we finish for the day, I go to Charlottes office and catch her just before she leaves. 'Hey! Wanna go for a drink?' I ask. 'Yeah. One sec.' She says, grabbing her bag and coat before following me down to the bar.

'My mom wanted me to thank you, by the way.' Charlotte informs me. 'Mama King!' I gasp. 'How is she?' Charlotte laughs. 'She's doing good. She thought you helped me study, and she wanted to thank you for helping me pass my exams!' I laugh. Charlotte was constantly lying to get out of the house. Her main lie was study group, so during lunch she would go over notes and try to make it up.

We stumble into the door of her apartment still talking and laughing, probably a little too loudly for 2 in the morning. Charlotte falls onto the couch, so I follow her. 'So where did you meet Addison?' She asks me. 'We worked together in Seattle. I was the pediatric attending. What did you go into?' I respond, standing up to get a drink. 'Sexology.' Charlotte says. 'What? Seriously? That makes so much sense.' I hand her a glass of water and sit back down. 'Yeah, well.'

Charlotte turns on the TV and we watch Netflix in silence for a while, both of us too drunk to move. 'What time is it?' I yawn. '4:25.' She answers. 'I haven't stayed up this late since residency. We should get to sleep, Addison will kill me if I'm late.' Charlotte turns off the TV. 'Goodnight, Y/n.' She throws a blanket over me. 'Night Charlie.' I joke.

I'm 10 minutes late to work the next morning, because Charlotte wanted to stop for coffee.

'Where were you two?' Addison confronts us as we try to sneak in. 'It was Charlottes fault!' I say quickly, pointing to Charlotte. She gasps and glares at me. 'Don't care! You're coming with me.' Addison grabs my hand and drags me into her office.

'Don't sleep with her.' Addison says when we get inside. 'What?' I laugh. 'I'm serious. Don't sleep with her! You're here for six weeks, and it will only screw up the work you do.' She reiterates. 'Addison, I'm not going to sleep with her. We broke up when we went to college. I moved all the way to New York! I promise, it's all in the past.' She drops the topic, and we focus on finding a way to get funding for the charity.

Even thought she didn't bring it up again, Charlotte was the only thing on my mind for the rest of the day. My first year of college I constantly imagined what it would've been like if we didn't break up, but eventually I moved on.

'Y/n! I need you to go down to the taco truck and get me something, okay?' Pete asks me, handing me a ten dollar bill. 'She doesn't work for you.' Charlotte says. 'Get your own food.' I stuff the bill in my pocket before Pete sees, and he goes to get his own taco.

I sit next to Charlotte at the table and show her the planning. 'We were going to open up a free clinic with the money, maybe two if we got enough funding. One here and one in Seattle.' I'm about to begin explaining how Addison wanted to hold a gala every year, but Charlottes staring at me funny. 'What?'

'I want another chance.' She suddenly says. 'I know that it was years ago, but I haven't stopped thinking about you since. Remember our tree house? We used to go up there every night and « study » and you always feel asleep, but I couldn't. So you brought me a pillow into school the morning after you realised, and you let me sleep at lunch.' I smile at the memory. 'You really cared, Y/n. More than any of us ever could've. That's the reason I loved you. It's the reason I still love you, and it's the reason I'll never stop.'

'Charlotte, I- I don't know. We're different people, we've changed. And I still live miles away. How is that going to work? Im sorry, Char. I just don't think it's possible.' I explain, but I immediately regret it. I would have done anything to be with her all those years ago, but now Im turning down the chance to see her every day again.

'Y/n, I will do anything you need, I'll move to Seattle, I'll buy you a house here, or we can compromise and move to Kansas together. I dont want to miss another chance.' Charlotte continues. I think about it for a minute, deciding whether or not there's a way.

'Okay. I'll be here for another two weeks, and then we can decide if you want to move to Seattle or if I'll move here. Okay?' Charlotte nods and wraps her arms around me.
