Chapter 38: The News
After the meeting Sam decided to head back to the heeler house after he went through the portal he found himself in front of the house and headed inside
Sam went upstairs to the living room and found the whole family was sitting on the couch which confused him and then he saw Sarah
"Hey Sarah what's going on?" Sam asked
"Oh there you are look" Sarah said as she pointed at the TV
The TV is on the news and a dachshund wearing a suit can be seen with what seems to be a folder with information about the story they are reading out
"Today's news bodies of strange creatures found in woods... Three campers found bodies of creatures in the woods here's an interview with one of the campers" The dog said as the screen turned to a bulldog with a hat that was sitting on a chair
"Tell me what were you doing when you found these bodies" The reporter asked
"Well I tell ya mate me and my boys were out camping and when we went to the creek we found a body with two holes in the middle of it and it had a lot of blood around it" The dog said
"Now what did it look like?" The reporter asked
"Well I'd guess it looks like a monkey with out it's hair and tail" The dog said
"How many did you find?" The reporter said
"Well I found 5 of them and my boy Matt found 8 and my other boy Frank found 3" The dog said
"Well thanks for the interview now back to you Dan" the reporter said
The screen turned back to the dachshund sitting behind the desk and Sam turned out what they are saying thinking
"They found the bodies... Shit what do the Heelers think about this... Oh God do they think I did it? I hope not" Sam thought as he looked at the family sitting on the couch
Chilli has a blank face as so as Bandit they took were thinking about the story and then Chilli looked at Sam in which he quickly turned back to the screen, but she caught him staring at them
Bandit turned off the TV and stood up
"Alright kids can you play outside grownups need to chat for a bit" He said as the girls stood up and walked downstairs
The room was silent as they knew what happened to the bodies
"Did you do it?" Chilli asked
"What do you mean?" Sam said
"Did you kill them!?" She raised her voice
Sam stood there in silence with a blank expression trying to think about how to handle this
"*Sigh* yes... Yes I killed them" Sam said
"Wha- why?" Bandit asked
"I defended myself they were sent to kill me" Sam said which made Bandit and Chilli uncomfortable
"Why were they sent to kill you?" Bandit questioned
"I have this AI that is powerful and they were afraid I'll use it against them so they sent those men to kill me" Sam said
"I can vouch for this I saved his life from them" Sarah jumped in
Chilli and Bandit looked at each other trying to think about it
"Can you give us a moment?" Chilli said as she grabbed Bandit's hand and walked out of the room
Sam and Sarah were in the room alone and Sam sat on the couch and put his elbows on his knees and looked down at the floor
"They're not going to like me" Sam said as he shook his head
"Hey that's not true they know you defended yourself" Sarah said
"That's not the point!" Sam raised his voice
"They took me into their arms soon as they found me and now they think I'm a monster that'll kill them when I have a chance to" Sam continued
"Now they probably don't want me around here anymore... not around the kids... not around the neighbors..." Sam said as he put his hands over his face
Sarah looked at him and she knew how deviated he is now his friendship is over and now he'd be exiled by the friends that helped him survive give shelter
*The bedroom*
"Bandit I don't think it's good to have them around here" Chilli said
"Babe he did in self defense he didn't mean to kill them intentionally" Bandit said
"I know, but I don't trust him around the kids" Chilli said
"Chilli... Day one he plays with the kids, he helps the kids learn and play, and he helps around the house if he's bad he wouldn't be so nice to us" Bandit said as he places his hands on hers
"I think you're right let's go back to them" Chilli said as she stood up along side with Bandit and they walked out of the bedroom and headed to the living room
Before they reached the doorway to the living room they can hear Sam talking to Sarah
"Now they probably don't want me around here anymore... Not around the kids... Not around the neighbors..." They heard Sam say
"I should probably leave..." Sam said as Bandit and Chilli were walking in
"No wait!" Chilli yelled as she walked in
Sam turned to look at her confused
"We don't want you to leave you're a good person and we know it you defended yourself and that doesn't mean we hate you for it" Bandit said
"Wait you guys heard me?" Sam said
"Well yeah and it breaks our hearts to see you go thinking that we hate you" Chilli said
"Oh... Well that's a relief that you don't hate me for what I did" Sam said
"We don't hate you you are family to us. Come here" Bandit said as he opened his arms for a hug
The three hugged it out and for awhile they didn't want to let go until Sam got a question
"Hey where's Smith?" Sam said as they heard yelling from the backyard
They went over to the balcony and looked over to see him getting chased by Bluey and Bingo while they are riding in a pedal car
"Oh yeah probably should've told him about that" Bandit said as he rubbed the back of his neck
"Well good luck with him" Sam said
