130 years ago, in Georgia, then occupied by the Russian Empire, Vladimir Mayakovsky was born - a future poet, artist, playwright, screenwriter, film actor, film director, journalist, editor of revolutionary magazines and newspapers.
Mayakovsky devoted his whole life to the struggle of the working class against the shackles of the bourgeoisie and exploitation. Mayakovsky's name and works have always been a formidable weapon against the bourgeoisie, neo-fascist reaction and revisionism. Mayakovsky has always been able to expose and find the enemies of the working class.
Today, anti-communist views are being attributed to Mayakovsky, they say, Mayakovsky "Became disillusioned with socialism," "Shot himself," "Supported Trotsky," "Was killed by Stalin's agents," and other tall tales. Today our goal is to remind the working class about the real biography and the struggle for socialism on the cultural front, to which Mayakovsky devoted his life.
"Mayakovsky was and remains the best, most talented poet of our Soviet era."
I think these words of Joseph Stalin are the perfect epilogue to tell about the revolutionary biography of Vladimir Mayakovsky.
From an early age, Mayakovsky saw how brutally and barbarously the tsarist troops treated his fellow Georgian workers. Mayakovsky first got acquainted with revolutionary work during the first Russian Revolution. This is how he recalled it in his autobiography "I am myself":
" My sister (*) arrived from Moscow. Enthusiastic. Secretly gave me long pieces of paper. I liked it:very risky. I remember it now. First:
Come to your senses, comrade, come to your senses,
brother,
quickly throw the rifle on the ground.
And some more, with the ending:
... otherwise , the way is different-
to the Germans with his son, with his wife and with
his mother...
(About the tsar).
It was a revolution. It was poetry. Poetry and revolution somehow combined in my head. "
Young Mayakovsky went to workers' rallies, spoke to them. He also describes these moments:
"For me, the revolution began like this:my friend, the priest's cook, Isidore, jumped on the stove barefoot for joy -General Alikhanov was killed. The pacifier of Georgia. Demonstrations and rallies went on. I went too. Well..."
Mayakovsky's sister, Lyudmila, also recalled:
"When it became known in Kutaisi (**) about the murder of N. E. Bauman, there was a large demonstration and clashes with the police, who dispersed the demonstrators. Volodya's schoolmates recalled how he (Mayakovsky-approx.), walking in the ranks of the demonstrators, read in Georgian the poems of the revolutionary poet Herodion Evdoshvili "To friends... "

Go ahead, friends, be brave!
Let the fight not frighten us,
Let the chest turn red with blood,
Let the blood flow like a river.
Go ahead, go ahead! We 'll descend
On the hated system,
After all , the brotherhood 's banner is crimson
The dawn is shining for us! "

In January 1905, Mayakovsky took part in student riots. Later, in 1930, Mayakovsky would stage the play "Moscow is Burning! ", dedicated to the first Russian revolution.

" 1905!
1905!
The seventeenth
                            year
                                        proud-
look around
              and remember again
the fifth burning year. "
